Comments about Diamond Head DU-200C Concert Ukulele:

My friend lent me this uke so I could "fix" it and make it sound halfway decent. I'm not usually an over-critical person, but I do have some warnings to any potential buyers.

In its original condition the strings were easily 1-2 cm too high off the fretboard in any given location. This of course is easily remedied by sanding down both the nut and bridge. Doing this took me roughly 30 minutes, and the intonation (how in tune fretted notes sound) was greatly improved. However the 2nd string (A) when fretted was still nearly a quarter step sharp. I was able to solve this by placing a small piece of hard plastic underneath the string behind the bridge increasing the scale length of this string by almost exactly 6 cm... Yeah, it was that bad :/

Now it sounds pretty nice. It has a surprisingly warm tone for the price, and I actually enjoy playing it. The overall feel of this instrument is rather cheap, but this is to be expected from the price.

If you're comfortable with your modification skills and just want a cheap carry-around uke then you really can't go wrong here. Otherwise I would avoid this one. I wouldn't even recommend this for a child beginner; cheap, poor sounding instruments don't facilitate creativity, they hinder it.

Comments about Diamond Head DU-200C Concert Ukulele:

I'm an experienced player of stringed instruments (13 years), but relatively new to the Ukulele (1 year). I bought this particular instrument for my wife to learn with.

It's pretty to look at right out of the box, but as others have said, the strings that come with it should be removed and replaced IMMEDIATELY. Once you've replaced and stretched the new strings out, it stays in tune fairly well. The tone is nice, and the volume is good.

Good to buy for a young person or new musician. It can sound good enough to make you want to continue, but doesn't cost so much that you'll be upset if you don't end up loving the instrument.

Comments about Diamond Head DU-200C Concert Ukulele:

This little Concert Uke looks and sounds great. It has tuning machines, not friction pegs, that I like. It's look is not flashy just nice clean lines. For me it was the best buy for my money!
Customer service is the best and shipping was fast.
