Well, I am currently waiting for Fed-Ex truck to pick up my second try at the mando-bird. I've have taken both of them to my set up guy and when he puts it on the strobe tuner and gets the open strings in tune that's o.k. but as soon as you fret any string the strobe tuner goes CRAZY!!!! Most chords sound way out of tune especially in the first five (5) frets. Steve says that most likely the nut has been misplaced during production. I love the look and feel of this little thang....but I can't handle the intonation problems. Also, the tuners are supposed to be "Mini-Grovers" but the back of the tuners read "ginho"!! Never heard of that.?Overall, it seems like a solid instrument and after adjusting the bass side of the pick-up down, away from the strings, the electric qualities are very hot and sounds great through a P.A. or acoustic amp. I am actually a guitar player but I play a little mandolin so that's why I choose this Mando-bird, for it's look and it seems that everytime I get asked to play the mandolin it is always in an "electrical or live" situation, never an acoustic front porch foot-stompin' bluegrass session. So that's why I'm ticked that it just didn't seem to work out for me. And the price point is great...very affordable for just about anybody! I hope the one you order will play chords in tune because the 2 I tried would not. GOOD LUCK!!!

Got it 2 days before a big gig and used it right out of the box. Sounded great, played like a dream, looked awesome, and other musician's and even stage hands had to check it out!

Comments about Epiphone Mandobird-VIII:
I play this weekly with a 5 piece band. Amazing sounds through my Acoustasonic Jr amp and my Vox VT 80amp. Started out playing sweet sounding fills and riffs, now find myself playing a lot of leads. Bought from MF, only required minor tweaking to get intonation perfect. I bought both the 8 string Mandobird VIII and 4 string Mandobird IV.Replaced the pickup on 4 string with custom wound PU for better e string tone.

Comments about Epiphone Mandobird-VIII:
Mandolins are supposed to be a little outta tune. The acoustic bodys of mandolins back the strings up and create a complete sound.
When you take away the acoustic body of a mandolin and force all of the 8 short strings harmonics through a single coil pickup,
things are gonna sound outta wack here and there.
Why Epiphone gave this little monster a solid 1 piece bridge is beyond me.
Comments about Epiphone Mandobird-VIII:
I have had mine a couple months now.Have gigged with it a lot. Play it straight thru your guitar rig.Sounds great with a slap delay and plate reverb.Strings can be found on the internet or make up your own sets. In a two guitar band using this half the nite really creates a lot of listener interest and keeps me interested too. Brown Eyed Girl has never been so much fun to play!
Comments about Epiphone Mandobird-VIII:
The mandobird is the funnest mandolin I have ever played. I was at a convention when I first played the mandobird, and it was love at first sight. The mandobird is easy to play, has clear sound, and works for whatever you want to play. I have played music for 4 years and I absolutely love the mandobird. It works for bluegrass, country, and probably a lot more. Its light weight, and practically plays itself.
Comments about Epiphone Mandobird-VIII:
This is a great electric mandolin option for a reasonable price. Mine came out of the box with a non-working pick up, so there are some quality issues here, but overall I think it is worth the price. I'd like to have some more tone and pickup options

Comments about Epiphone Mandobird-VIII:
Just got the Mandobird, and its really awsome. the e-string is a bit quiet if you have it turned down, and it isn't the best for distortion, but i really enjoy playing it, its loads of fun. its great for just about any type of music, unless you want lots of distortion. it has a good sound, and no bad parts. pretty cool.
Comments about Epiphone Mandobird-VIII:
This thing is cool. I play mandolin in a proggressive folk band. At a special show last year I pulled this thing out and plugged it into a halfstack. It put out a surpising amount of low end chunk. Its been the stuff of legend ever since.
Comments about Epiphone Mandobird-VIII:
The mandobird is my number one stage mandolin. I move around a lot so miking an acoustic is not happening. For a while I use a suction cup tuner pickup on either my Micheal Kelly or GIbson. The 1909 Gibson is just to valuable and fragile for the road. The MK had feedback problems. This is easy. Plug in and go! I had to adjust the pickup because it was a bit uneven in volume. Great feel, looks and people always ask me "What the heck is that thing?" Love It!
