Solid, well built with great finish work

I bought this unit used and Musician's Friend said it had a few scratches but was otherwise in great shape.  I was quite pleased when I recieved the banjo as I could find no scratches of any significance and it was otherise in perfect shape.  The sound was rich and a big step up from my previous banjo.

    Overall:

This banjo is solidly built with great finish work and sounds great.  I'm going have years of enjoyment with it.  In addition Musician's Friend was great to work with

    good banjo

it is a good banjo, i'll start with that.

    but not as pictured.

the picture shows a epiphone mb-250 with the trust rod cover saying "GIBSON" the way they sent me just has a epiphone "E" on it. not as impressive.

as well on the neck, the one they have pictured has the pearl inlay block that reads " masterbuilt"

the one they sent me says "EPIPHONE"

also in the picture it has a bone insert bridge.

i got a bridge with no bone and a chip of wood missing from the foot.

buyer beware! this banjo needs serious set up

Bought the banjo as "4" no returns allowed with a crack in the heel. Once repaired the banjo keeps sounding better and better. Thank you Epiphone for a great banjo. I play open back, both clawhammer and finger picking and it has a full range of sounds, great trebble bass sound and bright if it needs to be. Would buy again.

I received this banjo about 3 weeks ago. The first one did not have the 5th string peg installed correctly. I called Gibson they said they was sorry please return it to Musicians Friend for a new one. Musisians Friend was great they sent a return label and then a replacemnt. The second one I got looked fine in the packaging. When I lifted it out the neck came off in my hand. The packages looked fine no rough handaling at all. I called Musisians Friend again and again they were great. They sent me another label and next day aired me a new one. This one was in one peice finally. I had to get some serious setup on it but, it plays and sounds nice. None of this was Musicians Friends fault They Rock. Gibson has some serious quality issues with Epiphone though.

I bought this banjo ten years ago and have been playing it ever since.  It is sturdy, has great volume, and is a pleasure to play and listen to.  Unless you are a professional stage musician, or even if you are, you can't go wrong with this banjo for the money.
