Comments about Fender MandoStrat 8 8-String Mandolin:

I bought the 4-string Mando Strat to re-tune it for use as an electric cavaquinho in my Brazilian pop band. I had a fun time playing the fifths tuning, so I decided to buy the 8-string for traditional mandolin tuning. It is a fun instrument to play, it sounds cool, and the wood grain glints attractively out from the sunburst finish. I paused a bit due to the hockey-stick headstock, but I even dig that now. My guitar playing friends are mesmerized by this thing at jams. I hope Fender isn't discontinuing the Mando Strat, because it's a cool instrument. I was concerned about quality at this price point. It ain't no Custom Shop or Suhr, but it's entirely playable.

Comments about Fender MandoStrat 8 8-String Mandolin:

This is a beautiful instrument with a cool vibe and looks like the ones back in the sixties, but finally with 8 strings. Never did quite figure out why Fender originally made them only 4. My only problem with it is the intonation is off due to the nut being cut too high, i.e., the string slots are not deep enough. So the intonation is increasingly sharp the closer you get to the nut, the worst being in the first position. I have to admit I've seen some expensive guitars with this same problem. However, I have bought many more, including some not very expensive ones, which were correct right out of the box as they should be. But everything else about the instrument it is great. Once I get a setup done to correct the intonation, I should have a superb instrument.

This little monster totally rocks - what a cool screaming 8 string machine. Fit, finish, pick up, balance...all really good. I am very satisfied. Oh yea, I also happen to love the hockey stick headstock :-)

If you play clean into an amp, you'll hear the jangle of a mandolin. If you play through pedals, well you can make this little mouse roar.
