Easy to Play and to Listen to.

      Comments about Gibson RB Banjo:

Well I don't know about the other reviews, but my "starter" rb gibson is loud and rings like a bell up and down the neck. It has perfect intonation at every fret ! 1-22. I believe it's all in the setup. It has semi-low action, 3/16" at 22nd fret. I changed the 5 star tuning pegs to a grover style krishots and a snuffy smith bridge with a fluer delis engraved presto tailpiece. It's a sweet banjo and I get comments all the time about the clear finish.

      overpriced, mediocre tone & quality

      Comments about Gibson RB Banjo:

This banjo's tone lacks sustain & clarity, the neck is only so-so, and Gibson's "warranty" service sucks (but that's a whole other story)! This is a good banjo for someone who wants the "Gibson" name on the headstock but can't afford a good Gibson banjo- kinda like buying a Boxster if you can't afford a Porsche. Take my word for it...you can get a lot better banjo for a similar price by purchasing a Deering Sierra. I own both, and would never have considered the Gibson if I'd played the Deering first. (And no, I'm not a shill for Deering.) Heck, even the Korean-made Gold Tone BG sounds and plays better than this "Gibson".

      Comments about Gibson RB Banjo:

I have not played many banjos, but this one seems like a pricey starter banjo. I like it and bought it because it is plain and it is lighter than most bluegrass banjos. I think the sound (loudness, sustain) suffers from the lack of weight (metal) in the construction.
