I have fooled with "strings for a lot of years and stil not good.. I have a "cheap banjo" for several years and it sounded like badnews.. I bought this one because of the postive reviews... I have only had this a week or so but what a difference... This was well worth the money and maybe now I can learn more with a smile..

Comments about Gold Tone CC-100R Resonator Banjo:

Well, I got this banjo as a gift. Might I say a good gift. I had played banjos in the past and had been looking at purchasing some really cheap ones to learn on, and I had no idea that this one would end up in my possession. I have to say though, I would have regretted buying a cheaper epiphone banjo if I had ever come across this. It plays and sounds very similar to some higher priced banjos that I have played, but it is at such a good price. I didn't have to pay for the thing, so it is just an amazing banjo for me. But If you are looking to buy a quality banjo, this one has all of the specs you could want at the price. The string spacing is really good, the tone is very clear and there is no buzzing or rattles coming from anywhere (yet), and all of the hardware and parts are very good and sturdy. I am confident to play it with intesity and not worry about it being fragile and cheap. If this is your price range, then this is your banjo.

            Very Highly Recommended

Comments about Gold Tone CC-100R Resonator Banjo:

If you're debating whether to buy this banjer or a similarly priced Deering, I highly recommend this one; I went into a music shop about a month after I bought the Gold Tone and tried a Deering Goodtime, just to see if I'd made the right selection--the Deering felt cheap and looked downright ugly by comparison, and the sound was nothing to write home about. Surprising since it gets such good reviews.

This banjer feels wonderful in my hands. It has a slightly beefier neck and more generous string spacing than other banjers I've played, which has made a big difference in my playing.

The tuners will come installed without screws, just in case you want to replace them with planetary ones. This is not a problem; they are solid, smooth, and work very well. All parts are of very high quality; I've had no problems of any kind with it, and I look hard for problems.

There is some debate over tone rings vs. tone hoops (this one has a hoop by the way, not a 'proper' tone ring) but all I know is this banjer has a sweet, crisp, almost bell-like tone without breaking my leg with its weight.

Also, the picture above does the CC-100R little justice; you'll be surprised at how gorgeous it is in person. I love mine and can't say anough good things about it.

            Great banjo!

Comments about Gold Tone CC-100R Resonator Banjo:

I currently own a Deering openback banjo but wanted a resonator banjo that wouldn't break the bank. Based on the other reviews, I decided to give the CC-100R a chance. That was over a year ago and I couldn't be happier with this banjo. As a female player, I wanted an instrument that was lightweight, built well, and had a good bluegrass sound. This banjo has it all and looks great too. It's definitely not a toy. Would a Gibson bluegrass player approve? Probably not, but given the cost, features, and sound of this banjo, it would work for most people. And ladies, if you're looking for a good-sounding banjo that will be comfortable to hold while standing, this banjo is for you.

Comments about Gold Tone CC-100R Resonator Banjo:

This is the first banjo i have owned. Before buying this i played a friends banjo, Which was a total clunker. One of the tuning pegs was a drill bit wrapped in guitar string.I'm Very pleased with the CC100R, The Resonator comes off easily in case i want to play a little quieter at night. I got mine with Planetary Tuners and they work great. The color is nice and the Banjo is very light. This is certainly a beginners banjo, Light weight, No Flange. But i would certainly recommend this to ANY one who is looking tot play banjo. Its easy to play, great sound, All around awesome banjo

Comments about Gold Tone CC-100R Resonator Banjo:

I just started playing the banjo a couple of months ago. I've also played the guitar for 16 years and the mandolin for just a little over a year now. Let me tell you this...this is a quality instrument, especially for the price. It has a warm tone to it, unlike other cheaper models. I highly suggest spending the extra $ you'll be glad that you did.

This was the first banjo that I ever bought, and let me tell you, quite possibly the last. It made learning the in and outs of blue grass so much fun and so easy. For the quality vs price alone, any newbie to banjos should pick up a Gold Tone. You will not be disappointed.

            Happy with my purchase

            By Geoff-AwXn-

Comments about Gold Tone CC-100R Resonator Banjo:

I've been playing other string instruments for years and finally decided to buy a banjo. On first look I decided to get one of the cheaper banjos in the 180-250 range. On a last minute decision, I changed my mind. I know what a banjo should sound like, so I finally found some audio clips of the cheaper banjos. The cheaper ones will have some of that "tin can" sound. They are not as heavy and do not have tone rings, etc. This banjo has a brass tone ring. I then was able to hear audio of the CC-100R banjo, and I was sold. It has great tone, no tin can noise. It is very bright, of course not as good as more expensive banjos but in my opinion well worth the extra bit of money over the cheapest banjos. Some people might still benefit from the cheaper ones because of price, and that the cheaper ones can get the job done. Visit Goldtone's website for audio clips. This banjo has maple wood, a bone nut, 5th string nut and geared 5th string tuning peg. The fret board looks great. It plays great, very easy to fret notes, and absolutely no buzz or noises from the Goldtone setup. All in all I'm very happy with my purchase.

            Best banjo for $350

Comments about Gold Tone CC-100R Resonator Banjo:

I've had this banjo for a year and a half, no problems at all. It stays in tune, sounds great, and the action is perfect. I played a fender fb-54 for a weak before buying this one. The fender had a metal pot, this one is wood with a rolled brass tone ring. It's tone just didn't compare to this one. The gold tone is the first banjo I've bought, but have played guitar and any other stringed instruments I could get my hands on for years.
