OVERVIEW

The miracle of volume with a retro vibe.

When you play chunk rhythm, finger-style, bottleneck or anything else, the all-mahogany deluxe-appointed G9240 Alligator Biscuit Roundneck resonator guitar projects its distinctively swampy tones all the way to the back door of any dance hall. Like all fine Gretsch resonator guitars, the vital feature of the G9240 is the all-new Gretsch "Ampli-Sonic" diaphragm (resonator cone). Hand-spun in Eastern Europe from nearly 99-percent pure aluminum, the Ampli-Sonic diaphragm yields an impressive quality and volume of tone.

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G9240 Alligator Biscuit Round Neck Resonator:

I was expected more from a Gretch guitar, especally for the money. I may be that I need to have the guitar set-up, but none of the other four guitars I own required adjustments.

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G9240 Alligator Biscuit Round Neck Resonator:

EXCELLENT ACTION in open tunings yet high enough for clear slide sounds. It feels good in your hands and has a cool vintage appeal. Nicely constructed of good materials. The biscuit is solidly planted on the cone and seems very sturdy.
The fit and finish are more than fine. I like this guitar and plan on keeping it for a long while IGW. And as always, Musician's Friend is a fine partner to deal with. Buy it if FOLK-BLUES is your thing.

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G9240 Alligator Biscuit Round Neck Resonator:

This is a great guitar for the price. It was very clean for an import and I only spotted a few small specs or smears of glue. Very well put together guitar and the tone is just awesome for slide work or finger style. The guitar was setup really well, perfect for slide work or finger style. The biscuit bridge and spun cone sounded just fantastic and the tuners and other appointments were functional and attractive. Overall great resonator for the money. Not a National, but for the price it comes darn close.

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G9240 Alligator Biscuit Round Neck Resonator:

Wanted a Gretsch and a resonator so ordered one during the used gear sale. The guitar had no blemishes and didn't appear to be used. Nice sound until trying to play any note above the nut. The neck was way out of adjustment. I sent it back. If I had adjusted it and it still did not play well it may have caused me problems if I tried to return it later. MF was great as usual and aided in it's return. I still want a new Gretsch.

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G9240 Alligator Biscuit Round Neck Resonator:

I have been playing about 7 years and am 60 years old. I am self taught and mainly a strummer of chords. I have been wanting to learn how to play slide guitar and just have not been successful by using one of regular guitars tuned to an open key. So I began looking at resonator guitars. I did not want to spend an arm and a leg but wanted a quality guitar. My local store when I buy most of my guitars had a Fender, a Dobro, and two of the Gretsch Roots Series resonators, I tried all three. The Dobro square neck and the Gretsch Alligator impressed me the most. I settled on the Gretsch for a few reasons.

First, the Alligator is an awesome looking guitar. The dark mahogany matte finish withe pearloid headstock is simply gorgeous. I also like the F-hole sound holes. Second, the Ampli-sonic cone simply blew the Dobro out of the water. The Gretsch is LOUD, LOUD, and I mean LOUD! Third, being a round neck, I can play this guitar three ways: as a regular guitar with a pick or fingerstyle, as a slide guitar in an open key holding it as a regular regular guitar, or by laying it on my lap with a bar slide.

I checked this guitar over with a fine tooth comb and could not find one flaw in the workmanship. As you would expect with a resonator, the action was set high out of the box which was perfect for playing slide guitar. I am using Open G tuning to learn how to play. I have not adjusted the action. Playing it as regular guitar in Standard G, I am now used to the high action.

I purchased a classical guitar case for it and although not an exact fit, it holds the Alligator in place and the guitar does not move around. Much cheaper than buying the actual Gretsch case.

The Fende felt about 10 times heavier than the Alligator. The Gretsch Boxcar which is the lower p[riced version in the Roots Series sounded great but had a more mellow sound. The Dobro sounded great but was a hundred more. The Dobro had a built-in pre-amp. With this Gretsch Alligator I don;t think I would ever need a pre-amp in the environments in which I play.

You will be extremely satisfied if you get one of these.
