OVERVIEW

Traditional mahogany design with modern construction and components perfect for blues.

The Gretsch G9200 Boxcar Resonator marks the return of resonators to the Gretsch family. It has the round neck that's preferable for blues-based music such as Mississippi Delta blues, country blues or even ragtime blues. A square neck version, which is used for bluegrass, is also available (please see model G9210, our sku# H80549). The G9200 features a beautiful mahogany body with traditional-style F holes. The heart of this richly resounding guitar is the Gretsch Ampli-Sonic resonator cone, hand-spun in Eastern Europe from nearly 99-percent pure aluminum for fantastic volume and sonic projection.

Gretsch is proud to take players on a musical journey through nearly a century of great Gretsch history by introducing its Roots Collection of acoustic instruments. This exciting family of banjos, mandolins, resonator guitars, ukuleles and Rancher acoustic guitars feature classically authentic Gretsch designs that transport players to a bygone era well before the company made its acclaimed 1950s entry into the electric guitar world.

Comments about Gretsch Guitars Root Series G9200 Boxcar Round Neck Resonator:

I'm an aging rocker. I have a small studio I made with many instruments I use. I didn't have a resonator guitar, and wanted one for background slide on certain tracks. For the cost, the sound is great. It sounds like a decent resonator playing without the slide too, but the sound is sweeter with it. The resonator 'cone' does it's job. It's still a low end priced guitar, but for the money it performs really well.

Comments about Gretsch Guitars Root Series G9200 Boxcar Round Neck Resonator:

I keep a Gretsch Boxcar tuned to Open A by my desk. It's the guitar I reach for most often, partially because of its tone and partially because it feels so good to play. I find the soft V neck to be very comfortable. At first I found the wide string spacing a little bothersome, but I've come to appreciate the extra room. The only things that were less than perfect were these: (1) Out of the box, the action was a little bit high (not a big deal); (2) It runs 12 frets to body, which is sometimes annoying when I play slide using my ring finger (I knew that when I bought it); (3) I haven't found a good option for a pickup or mic.

Was just passing a music store on holidays and fell in love with the guitar at first sight. Couldn't believe it's tone and feel. Other owners will agree I'm sure; for the quality and price this instrument can't be surpassed. I look forward to putting mine through hell!

Comments about Gretsch Guitars Root Series G9200 Boxcar Round Neck Resonator:

just thought i would do a follow up review after about a year of owning this beast. i have thoroughly abused this guitar, playing it mostly outdoors in any weather that happens by. spilled beer on it, dropped it once, never cleaned it, and its never seen the inside of a case. in spite of all that , it sounds better now than it did when it was new. it has a very swampy howl to it when using a ceramic slide, and a twangy country kind of sound with brass. i play this guitar almost every day.
it seems to like d'addario reso strings best, and i change them about once a month. its built like a tank, but sounds so awesome. i can say without hesitation, this is the best money i ever spent on an instrument. get it, get yer swamp on.

I've wanted a resonator for awhile and the price was right and after reading other reviews, I treated myself to a Christmas present and was not disappointed at all. It's a beautiful instrument with great tone and easy to play. Highly recommend it.

new to playing slide, but this git almost plays itself. very nice action just like it is, but I may raise it just a tad. sounds so nice and bluesy with brass and glass. looks super cool and the v shaped neck gives your thumb something to ride on. I love this guitar. if you are on the fence on this one, and you want a reso, pull the trigger baby!!

Comments about Gretsch Guitars Root Series G9200 Boxcar Round Neck Resonator:

I was amazed at the quality offered for the price. Gretsch clearly does a good job of quality control at the factory that produces these. While not really an exceptional guitar the Boxcar represents a very good buy for the money. The guitar seems to be very well constructed of good materials, plays well and with a great tone. I've always wanted a resonator guitar, but could not quite make the numbers work.

Comments about Gretsch Guitars Root Series G9200 Boxcar Round Neck Resonator:

This thing sounds SWEEEEEET. I was so excited to open up the box when it finally was shipped (after being on backorder a few weeks) and was amazed and how carefully and well packaged it was. After tearing through a few layers of foam, cardboard, and packing material, I got her out and she gleamed from the start. It was even almost tuned already, just short adjustments is all it took before I was strumming away! It's clean and has a great warm tone, perfect for blues or western pickin' at any time. This resonator has a beautiful body that is very rustic. It doesn't come with electric pickups, but who needs 'em when you just want classic!
