Gretsch Guitars

Traditional nickel-plated, brass body design with modern construction and components perfect for blues.

The Gretsch G9201 Honeydipper Metal Resonator marks the return of resonators to the Gretsch family. It has a round neck that's perfect for blues-based music such as Mississippi Delta blues, country blues or even ragtime blues. The G9201 features a nickel plated brass body with traditional-style F holes. The heart of this richly resounding guitar is the Gretsch Ampli-Sonic resonator cone, hand-spun in Eastern Europe from nearly 99-percent pure aluminum for fantastic volume and sonic projection.

Gretsch is proud to take players on a musical journey through nearly a century of great Gretsch history by introducing its Roots Collection of acoustic instruments. This exciting family of banjos, mandolins, resonator guitars, ukuleles and Rancher acoustic guitars feature classically authentic Gretsch designs that transport players to a bygone era well before the company made its acclaimed 1950s entry into the electric guitar world.

Features

  • Round neck
  • Nickel plated brass body

Comments about Gretsch Guitars Root Series G9201 Honeydipper Metal Round Neck Resonator:

I've played resonator guitars and know to look for one that rings -- after all, they are constructed from bell brass with the nickel plating! This one did not have much sustain or ring. It looked great, was solidly built -- but maybe I got a dud. Anyway, found a Republic tri-cone that meets my requirements -- so this Gretsch was returned.

Comments about Gretsch Guitars Root Series G9201 Honeydipper Metal Round Neck Resonator:

I'm an avid bass player and always had a love of delta blues. After spending years tossing the idea around of getting a resonator I finally treated myself.
First off, the factory setup is nearly perfect which came as a huge relief as I've read it can be somewhat complex to properly set up a resonator. The sound is absolutely huge, almost to a detriment because it is hard to sing over the guitar when you are really digging in. The "v" profile on the back of the neck feels amazing and, as a bass player, the nice wide string spacing is a definite plus. It's just a hair more narrow then most classical guitar. Last, but not least, the sound is incredible for that great delta tone. I found it very frustrating trying to mimic the tone of Son House, Bukka White, and Charlie Patton on an accoustic but just 30 seconds in to playing "Down the dirt road blues" i had to laugh becuase i loved the swampy tone so much.
Do yourself a favor and get this guitar...

Comments about Gretsch Guitars Root Series G9201 Honeydipper Metal Round Neck Resonator:

Wanted to like this guitar. It has the right look and weight (its heavy) but for me it lacked a real sense of presence. Its tone was either really loud or weak. Slide playing seemed to require more muscle than finesse and so it wasnt the right guitar for me. Pretty amazing build quality for the price though. The one feature I really wish it had is an adjustable bridge or saddle for the action was low for my tastes and adjustment was not easy. And so it went back...
