OVERVIEW

A limited-edition, retro-styled model with Gretsch “Ampli-Sonic” diaphragm.

Add some color to your sound with the limited-release G9202 Honey Dipper Special. This round-neck resonator guitar has all the same features as the wildly popular G9201 Honey Dipper, with the additions of aged white fingerboard binding, screened headstock graphic and a weathered “Bell Bronze" finish.

The vital feature of all Gretsch resonator guitars is the all-new Gretsch “Ampli-Sonic” diaphragm (resonator cone). Hand-spun in Eastern Europe from nearly 99-percent pure aluminum, the Ampli-Sonic diaphragm yields an impressive quality and volume of tone. Case sold separately.

False Advertising Alert: Cone is stamped not handspun

Comments about Gretsch Guitars Root Series G9202 Honey Dipper Special Round-Neck Resonator:

Cones on these guitars are stamped out of cheap aluminum, not "handspun from 99% aluminum in Eastern Europe". I just checked with the manufacturer and they admitted the "whole handspun thing was an idea that came from the designers, but it was never fully realized." The aluminum is of cheap quality and is prone to collapsing during shipping. A collapsed cone will create an overly muddy sound and a buzzy action. I've played 4 of these guitars, all of which had these symptoms of a collapsed cone. I do have a honey dipper, but I replaced the cone with an actual handspun Beard Resonator Cone. It cost over 100 greenbacks, but made a huge difference in the sound quality and made the guitar playable again.

Comments about Gretsch Guitars Root Series G9202 Honey Dipper Special Round-Neck Resonator:

I originally purchased one of these (the 9201 in the regular silver color) from a competing company, but when it arrived the neck was warped (so much for their 55 point check!). I kept looking and saw the 9202 in Bell Bronze, which was much more visually appealing. I was worried because I thought maybe these guitars were inherently flawed neck-wise, but I decided to pulled trigger, knowing that Musician's Friend has a great no-hassle return policy. Well, this baby ain't going back! Beautiful instrument, perfect neck on this one, and the look/finish is so cool. Not quite as yellow as the pictures might make it look--very subtle, depending on the light. It plays absolutely killer! Definitely takes a bit getting used to if you're not familiar with resonator guitars (which I wasn't). It's a HEAVY guitar--deceiving because it's an acoustic--and weights more than my Les Paul, so you need to find a comfortable position and hold on! Very bottom heavy but it feels so good! I like high action on my guitars, and this guitar has that perfect balance of high action (necessary for slide) and neck comfort that makes it a pleasure to play. This is a great way to break into the resonator experience (as opposed to a $3000 National). All in all, a great "honey" of a guitar. Get yourself one!!

Comments about Gretsch Guitars Root Series G9202 Honey Dipper Special Round-Neck Resonator:

I have wanted a resonator for years and all I tried sounded like beating a wet rug, I took a gamble and purchased this Honey Dipper from MF and you should too, this thing is a guitar, it lays in your lap like a girl friend, the sound just BOOMS, I wish the neck was better, its beautiful but the heavy strings tend to warp the neck more than I like, I am going to tighten the trust rod and it will kill the warranty but! it has to be done, You will not be disappointed at all and the sound is fantastic. enjoy this guitar its sweet.
