OVERVIEW

Traditional mahogany design with modern construction and Fishman electronics perfect for bluegrass.

The Gretsch G9230 Bobtail Acoustic-Electric Resonator marks the return of resonators to the Gretsch family. It has the square neck that's preferable for bluegrass. A round-neck version, which is better for blues-based music, is also available (please see model G9220, our sku# H80542). The G9230 features a beautifully-bound mahogany body with traditional-style F holes. The heart of this richly resounding guitar is the Gretsch Ampli-Sonic resonator cone, hand-spun in Eastern Europe from nearly 99-percent pure aluminum for fantastic volume and sonic projection. The onboard Fishman Nashville pickup features a split saddle piezo-ceramic pickup designed specifically for spider-style bridges and offers consistent, accurate sound reproduction for every performance.

Gretsch is proud to take players on a musical journey through nearly a century of great Gretsch history by introducing its Roots Collection of acoustic instruments. This exciting family of banjos, mandolins, resonator guitars, ukuleles and Rancher acoustic guitars feature classically authentic Gretsch designs that transport players to a bygone era well before the company made its acclaimed 1950s entry into the electric guitar world.

Comments about Gretsch Guitars Root Series G9230 Bobtail Square Neck Acoustic-Electric Resonator:

All around a typical Dobro sound, lacks tone and volume control on instrument, the plug receptical is difficult to insert plug. Other than that a nice instrument for the price.

Comments about Gretsch Guitars Root Series G9230 Bobtail Square Neck Acoustic-Electric Resonator:

Been playing for years, have lots of other toys. Blah blah blah. However, this thing was a total surprise. Nice warm "Dobro" Spider Bridge tone. Decent unplugged volume that can easily solo over a flat top. Since it has no pre amp, I was sceptical about the pickup volume plugged into an amp, (fishman loud box) but that was a non issue. Pickup works well.
Tuning keys were also a pleasant surprise. Although open type, the ratio is good and they seem to be smooth and tight. It's also seemed shockingly light to me.
I was expecting to have to do a few upgrades to get it gig worthy, but frankly I'm going to leave it alone. It's sounds fantastic as is. Does it look like a 2k resonator? No, it's not glossy showpiece. I enjoy that it seems to recall the lean times when these were in fashion. Also, I bought it as a scratch and dent for an excellent price and found nothing wrong with it.

Comments about Gretsch Guitars Root Series G9230 Bobtail Square Neck Acoustic-Electric Resonator:

I was looking for a Resonator to play "flat" that could give me a good Country/Bluegrass sound... but also a good Blues sound. The Bobtail gives me just what I was looking for. Wonderful warm tone with just the right amount of "twang". The Fishman pickup is fabulous. There are no pickup controls on the guitar but that's ok with me. I think obvious electronics would take away from the looks of the guitar. I can always adjust my amp as needed. (just my 2 cents)
