My kids wanted an ocarina so they could play the songs from Zelda. I had no trouble at all finding sheet music, chords, and instructional videos on Google and YouTube. The only down side is the appearance; like some unfinished plastic component. The craftsmanship is sturdy and it looks like it will last for some time, but more colors or decals would be an improvement.

My girlfriend really wanted an ocarina so while I was making a big order from Musician's Friend I figured this thing was SO cheap that I couldn't go wrong.

Well, I went wrong. As most of the other reviewers have stated this is a piece of junk. It's poorly crafted, cheap quality, and the shoddily molded halves don't join correctly so it's extremely difficult to play it and have it make sound.

If you take your fingers, the ones you should be using to play this ocarina, and use them to seal the many molding imperfections across the seam, it actually doesn't sound that bad. The downside of this technique is that you can't actually play it because your fingers are occupied.

It's really more novel or decorative than anything because it doesn't actually function out of the box as an ocarina.

I guess I'm going to have to try to seal up the seams so it cam maybe be played.

Alto Ocrina

Comments about Grover-Trophy C Alto Ocarina:

at least a 9
Great Price and seemed good quality. Don't know if I will ever be able to play it since I am hopelessly inept as a musician. Tried a recorder couldn't play it. Tried violin as a child, couldn't play it. Thought I could play sax in high school, but teacher used to throw erasers at me. Maybe I'll learn to pick out something with this. At this price and with free shipping, it's without a doubt the best deal anywhere.

Greatness

Comments about Grover-Trophy C Alto Ocarina:

This ocarina is very good for a beginning ocarina player, easy to pick up and lots of fun, I originally purchased it because of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, and once I started playing it, it became one of my favorite instruments to play. If you have a knowlege of music theory, you can play very well the first time you pick it up, if you don't you can still pick it up easily. Wonderful product

This is the only Ocarina MusiciansFriend currently carries. It is a cheap plastic toy that leaks air and sounds terrible. Look for a better quality Ocarina elsewhere, this one will just frustrate anyone trying to learn.

Produces terrible tone, and isnt really tuned to well.....anything. It would be MUCh more fortuitous to spend money on a better type of whistle, or, to take your money elsewhere and buy a nice clay ocarina. JUST dont buy a crummy little plastic one.

package says "best quality", what a joke!made of plastic, seams are not tight and 'leaks' air like a balloon full of holes. sounds like an old man trying to whistle through a tube. not sure if this was worth the 3.99. spend $20 on something that has even the slightest hint of quality over this one. meanwhile, i'm fixin the seams with a hot iron.

Comments about Grover-Trophy C Alto Ocarina:

Well, I ordered this along with a longer shopping list, just for the hec of it really... and I honestly wouldn't do it again. I don't like the sound at all. The plastic is cheap, the sound is worse than a frog with laryngitis... but it could be used as a self-defense weapon, as it will irk an assailant more than being tased and maced at the same time. Do yourself and society a favor and don't buy this product (even though its cheap). You want a cheap instrument get a recorder or tin whistle.

It was my favorite while growing up. I had many different sizes and always carried at least one with me. At summer camp, I played along with campfire songs. Now its time to get as good as I was so many years ago.

I bought this for my five year old brother who loves Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time, and I looked up all the tabs and everything for the songs from the game. Once I recieved the ocarina, I was a little unhappy that it was red and not blue as pictured, but it was not a big deal. He still loves it, even though there's not much of a change in pitch.
