      OVERVIEW

An old favorite with a broader range!

The Hohner 365 Marine Band harmonica offers pure, rich tone and classic vibe. Similar to the 1896 10-hole Marine Band but with 14 holes for a broader expressive range. Comes in a vinyl snap case.

Harp master Sonny Boy Williamson often performed and recorded with this harmonica. He appreciated its extended bottom end, especially in the key of G.

Comments about Hohner 365 Marine Band Harmonica:

I bought this (in C) expecting it to play just like a marine band, but no, it's a completely different harmonica. The quality is poor and a lot of air leaks through while playing, and not just in the extended range reeds. It's more like an entry-level instrument, worse than a Hot Metal but better than a toy. You can't bend very far before the air leaks dominate, and the leaks when you attack a note make it very unresponsive. Leaks also making it difficult to sustain a note. You're always fighting the instrument and trying to work around its problems, never really playing it. Its extra thickness makes it uncomfortable. And the holes are slightly wider than a normal Marine Band. Overall, it's not fun to play, and if you're expecting Marine Band quality, you'll be disappointed.

I have no use for this instrument and I don't even bother bringing it to jams.

Perhaps the difference is because this is made at the Czech factory, not the German one. Oh, and all of this is also true for the 12-hole version (in D) I bought at the same time, in case anyone was wondering. The similar experience with both of the extended range Czech Marine Bands makes it unlikely that I just got a dud.

Comments about Hohner 365 Marine Band Harmonica:

This is a large Marine Band! It dwarfs a 10 hole MB in length, height, and depth. It has a bigger sound, too. This harmonica is loud. I have a key of C #365. It has extra bass and treble notes when compared to the 10 hole MB. Being a 14 hole model, it will not fit in the smaller Hohner neck brace. But it will fit in the larger brace. The build quality is as you would expect from Hohner, and tonally it sounds like its smaller brother. It will take some getting used to, if you are accustomed to the size and feel of the 10 hole. I like the fact that you have a low C note one octave lower than the 10 hole MB. I can't imagine my harmonica collection without it.

The extended low end provides an awesome sound, although the lowest reeds are a little difficult to bend.

                Solid harp

Comments about Hohner 365 Marine Band Harmonica:

I've had one of these in G for a long time- and racking my brain trying to recall when and where I got it- it was cheaper then, like everything else I guess. Think I paid only about $1.
It's been about 20 years I think. I'm going to use it more now- I've played a lot of cheap tremoloes which require less wind, but gonna work on blues style I think. Never had any trouble with it- even the case is still in good shape.
The top couple of holes may be a bit shrill- could probably get by with 10 or 12 holes if I had to replace it, but not sure they'd be as sturdy and nice. Does take some air....I'd recommend it.

                Great Harmonica

Comments about Hohner 365 Marine Band Harmonica:

Have owned and played the same marine band 365 since 1976. Finally, a reed went bad. I play this with neck brace and a Martin guitar. Many Neil Young, Bob Dylan, John Gorka, and other songs have flown over the reeds. Ordering both the C and G notes today. Although I own and tried others, when something works this well, dont change is my motto.
