The go-to harp for professionals and the first choice for those learning to play.

The 560 Special 20' airtight design makes it the most recommended go-to harp for harmonica players of any style, including blues, country, folk, or rock. It has the coveted Marine Band sound plus the added benefits of its plastic comb, which doesn™t absorb moisture. Plastic combs are more stable and do not swell, shrink, or crack. Plus they last longer and are more airtight than wood combs that can become swollen, twisted, and warped. Increased airtightness means increased responsiveness. Plastic also provides comfort and it's smoother on the lips, preventing chafing. Another plus of the 560 Special 20's design is that its smooth mouthpiece features reed plates that are recessed into the comb. This keeps the two (rather sharp) edges of the brass reed plates from harming the player's lips. It' the harp-of-choice of harmonica virtuoso John Popper of the band Blues Traveler and was played by Bob Dylan on his 2007-2008 tour. Chances are your favorite player has several of these in his case.

This particular 560 Special 20 harp is made in low tuning, which means that it offers one lower octave than standard-tuned harmonicas.

Comments about Hohner 560 Special 20 Harmonica - Low Tuning:

Here's a few pro's and con's.I think it's essential for intermediate and above level players to have some low octave harps in their arsenal, especially for keys of F, D, and E. I would say that's more true for those occasions when you are playing straight harp. It's also important to note that (in my experience) the reeds wear out more quickly for a low-tuned harp. Consequently I would recommend that you buy a low-tuned harp that has replaceable reeds. Hohner's MS series harps fit into this category, as does at least one other competitor.Be advised that, although the Hohner Special 20's are among the best for blues players who need to bend notes, that ALL low octave harps are pretty stiff when it comes to bending, especially on holes 2 and 3. (hey, it's a bigger reed) If you play a lot, and you need a low octave harp for a tune, I would recommend that you have a backup harp in your arsenal. Regardless of brand or that harp's slot in the quality hierarchy.

Comments about Hohner 560 Special 20 Harmonica - Low Tuning:

Here it is: The second-best harp I've ever heard or played, and the best one I've found on this site. The sound of this harp is deep and huge. You will feel it in the bottom of your feet. My non-harp playing friends heard the difference immediately after I took it out. The 1 hole draw produces a ringing sound very easily when you start to draw too hard, but this will only make you a better player. Less than an hour after I got it already knew the perfect way to punch the note. You can still get that great honking sound; in fact it is easier.I'd recommend this to anyone, and will replace it when the time comes. I don't think that will be any time soon, though.

If you have a mustache be prepared for the ocasional pulled hair that gets caught in the side plates or buy another style.
II purchased a low-D and I love it. Great mellow sound. Holds up well. I also have other Hohners. Be sure to buy from a reputable dealer and don't count on the Hohner warentee.
Quality is good for the price. Tune is not bad and longevety has been good for me.
Reasonable price for a good harp.

Comments about Hohner 560 Special 20 Harmonica - Low Tuning:

I am a harmonica customiser.Just received the low F about a week ago. I have already fitted it with a Corion comb and opened the back covers and completed the final tuning and tweaking (arcing) of the reeds. Playing it is like driving a fine race car.

Of special note was with the service provided by Musicians Friend. EXCEPTIONAL!!!!

Thank you,

Landis Custom Classics
