Out of all my chromatics, the CX-12 has the best tone (with the possible exception of my Super 64) and is the most airtight and responsive. When you add to that the fact that it takes about two seconds to open it up to clean it or fix windsavers, it's a no-brainer! Despite the plastic case, it has a good heft to it. You can really feel the quality of this thing. It just feels solid. The button slides smoothly and easily and doesn't stick. I've had no valve buzz or anything. My go-to harp!

I travel all over the world with my harmonicas(5). These travel well, and because of the plastic body, don't split when traveling from humid to dry climates. They play well, but I did have one explode apart when I dropped it on stage. They don't fit in the smaller harmonica holders. Also, I have to make my own carriers since the belts are only for the Marine Band type harmonicas. I carry mine in a leather Bible case...sans the plastic case which is HUGE.

This one has a great tone and easy note bendability. However, the plastic housing can be a little fragil so try not to drop it onto any hard surface.

You know: I get sick and tired reading about how "bad this instrument is",.. and even about slanderous allogations that Hohner hates it!If you Actually know how to play a harmonica you will Love this one for it's warm, rich, rather powerful sound (a bit less than the Super 64X.)The only caveat I have is that the slider could be a bit smoother and more responsive. Still,..

Comments about Hohner 7545 CX12 Chromatic Harmonica:

I've had my 5 CX-12s almost 5 years and I last wrote a review over 2 years ago. I've had reeds go flat, and just paid more to Hohner for a replacement set of reed than I paid for the whole harmonica 5 years ago! They continue to be sturdy, dependable and travel well. Google harmonica repair, and there are people out there who will replace reeds and tune your harmonica for far less than Hohner. Not perfect...but better than most.

I play in a harmonica band and in country jam sessions. The CX-12 is my workhourse. It's easy to clean and I do that about once a month. I have Hohner replace my broken reeds. I break about one reed a year per harp.

Being typically a diatonic blues player, I find this much more easy to play than other chromatic harps. Can't wait to figure out how to play jazz with it.

Comments about Hohner 7545 CX12 Chromatic Harmonica:

I've been playing harmonica around 3 years now, and really take it seriously. I'm soon going to get a blues harp, and have a Hohner 270 in G, 260 in C, and a cheap Swan (?) 16-hole. This was my grandfather's, along with the Hohner's, and this is by far my favorite. Great tone, nice sound, and when you tounge block, it sounds amazing. Especially the chording. I love this harmonica!

Comments about Hohner 7545 CX12 Chromatic Harmonica:

The slide responsiveness, volume and air-tightness are better out-of-the-box than any other model I've played. The plastic body does not rust but does wear out. Easier to clean than other models, but you do have to take care with the windsavers. If they didn't wear out so fast, I would play nothing else except maybe in the studio.

Comments about Hohner 7545 CX12 Chromatic Harmonica:

having owned hohner products before, I expected the quality of tone and design to be excellent. this time I'm very disappointed in this model, it lacks the trademark care given to other models of this price range. the design seems to have promise but terribly lacking in functionality. although I still remain a die hard hohner user, I would call the cx12 a chromatic for kids and not to be marketed as a professional quality instrument!!! maybe when hohner redesigns this model down the road, it will live up to other great models that hohner has produced.

I've played 40 years in a semi-pro C/W band with Hoh. Special 20s. All by ear. Transposing this harmonica is very difficult. Especially keys that are primarily draw as I run out of air.
I'D REALLY LIKE TO RETURN IT FOR ONE THAT PLAYS MORE EASILY.

I've played some blues harp but first time with chromatic. Multiple note problems on 3 holes. Two adjacent holes had the same note sound, and two holes stepped a half note in the wrong direction when the slider was pressed. Wrong notes and weak barley audible notes on #2 hole both in and out. I think the assembler was half asleep when it was put together! Had to return it after a few days of trying to work with it.

Mine was built poorly & incorrectly and I returned it. A couple low notes were very weak and not playable. Another note was the same as the one next to it and a few other errors in the tone produced. Sounded like they got a few reeds mixed up. Highest tones were just squeaks. Notes that did work and were correct sounded fine and the slider was good. Comfortable to play.

Nice contours all around make it comfortable. I have the gold model, which has a very smooth finish and is easy on the lips. I have to admit the CX12 takes a lot of breaking in, but that seems the same on all "loud harps". Cleaning is a snap. My biggest complaint is the plastic lever does not have a very smooth operation. Hohner needs to address the action.

Comments about Hohner 7545 CX12 Chromatic Harmonica:

Tone is best in midrange, and falls off rapidly in the upper and lower octaves. The sound quality is definitely not as good as the special 20 series in the upper registers. The unit suffers from a tendency to have sticky reeds, which makes the tone quality inconsistent. One-piece cover construction is a plus, but overall, the harp is less than I expected for the cost.
