I keep seeing people who buy high grade instruments looking to honk them. This is not a honker or a toy. You should be using a diatonic. Probably the cheapest one available. You won't recognize the difference anyway. The purpose of a chromatic is range and clarity. If you want to blast, honk and bend out the blues and rock, this is NOT your instrument. Much better suited for classical or Jazz. When you 'clog up' one of these instruments? It's all you. You over moistened the valves through poor technique. You should not be touching one of these unless you are a serious player or intend to become one. It takes me several hours of solid playing to dampen the valves with my breath enough for sticking. Well beyond the range most people will practice, well well well beyond the length of any performance. The playability of these units is fantastic. Those stepping up from a 3 octave instrument will have some adjustment to do and become familiarized with the broadened range as well as the lengthier size. You would be surprized how much 4 extra holes worth of length can throw you off and unbalance you initially, but once you get the feel you will fall in love. The tone on these? Amazing in the right hands. No roughness or characteristic 'buzz'. It projects quite loudly all the while allowing a soft, clear and sweet tone for soft, melodic playing. I have recorded classical and left people guessing what type of instrument due to the sweetness of tone. Harmonica is never one of the guesses. This is a VERY serious instrument, it is designed for soloists, it is a lead instrument not geared for the periodic chord toot from the background. If you cannot comprehend the difference please reference Tommy Reilly or Larry Adler, look them up online, listen. While technically quality is often reflected by higher price, some of you neglect to appreciate properly fitting the *type* of harmonica to suit your playstyle and musical selection. This is for the virtuoso, the soloist. All others need not apply.

This has marvelous reedplates, tone color that I like. They made an unnecessary gold plated mouthpiece, BUT the tuning is too high above 440. The harmonica is not well tuned to itself. The gapping of the reeds is inconsistent, which makes some reeds respond differently and poorly. The mouthpiece has just as much air leakage as the Super 64 has. They should have skipped the gold and reduced the air leakage.
Only buy this if you know how to tune and gap reeds. You need to know how to fight air loss.
It will be a great harmonica, after you have worked on it.

          My chromatic dream come true

Comments about Hohner 7584 Super 64X Chromatic Harmonica:

As I carefully opened the nice case containing the Super 64X, my eyes dazzled at its beauty, (gold plated, German made, solid, reeds visible through its acrylic block) My limited harmonica experience makes no difference. It plays easily and beautifully. A real joy to have, hold and play. The big holes actually make it easier to play. I was playing songs the first day with compliments from my family. Its exactly what I wanted and more!

Comments about Hohner 7584 Super 64X Chromatic Harmonica:

My grandfather bought me my first harmonica in 1965 and taught me how to play. Over the years I have owned all kinds and tried all kinds. Just recently I heard the Super 64X played ata bar in Memphis. The tone quality was immaculate which was only enhanced by the skill of the man playing it. My only reason for not owning one now is the price. It is a beautiful piece - and well worth the price. One day soon I will own one.

          It's a pitty it doesn't come in a key other than C

Comments about Hohner 7584 Super 64X Chromatic Harmonica:

It's indeed a serious instrument. It's a pitty that it doesn't come in a key other than C. Because of one extra octave one doesn't have to jump between octaves while playing lead. My favourites are Hindi Film songs. Through the websites I have encountered some brilliant musicians.

Comments about Hohner 7584 Super 64X Chromatic Harmonica:

Maybe it's that my playing is to agressive for this Harp but, the reeds did not last very long even though I tried to play very carefully.

Comments about Hohner 7584 Super 64X Chromatic Harmonica:

The "Super" Is Super: Powerful, Fast, Dynamic and it has considerable Upper Partials which make it most suitable for Jazz, Pop,Blues and especially Tango. But ( and it's not the Super's fault), I play mostly Classical,.. So, I prefer my CBH Professional 2016,.. which was unique and, possibly, the "best" Classical Harmonica Hohner ever made!

Comments about Hohner 7584 Super 64X Chromatic Harmonica:

Been playing the Harmonica for over 40 years and have about 8 models of Hohner. They are the best. And the Super 64X has been my all time favourite. A beautiful instrument... and always a pleasure to play.

Fuller tone than the 280/64 Chromatic (which is also a good harmonica).
