I bought this harmonica from a cracker barrel like three years ago. It had been in my closet ever since. Me and my friend have been covering Piano Man for a while now with no harmonica. We both recently got into them and it made me think "I wonder if that cheap old harmonica is still in my closet." Sure enough, I pull out a cracker barrel bag with a Bluesband in it. I whip it out and learned Piano Man in about five minutes, and now use it when performing. Who would have thought that something I bought for five bucks from a restaraunt gift shop on a whim a few years back would be an intricate part of a crowd favorite. The only reason this doesn't have a five star rating is because this is the entry level. For the price, you get an amazing harmonica, but there is so much more beyond this. As a hobby, or the beginning of a professionally played part, this is perfect. I don't imagine myself sing this forever, but I know when I get a new one, it will be a Hohner.

Not one of Hohners best

I'm sorry to say, that apparently you do get what you pay for in a harmonica. This one does have a great price though.

Not bad, but...

Ask me a question

The Bluesband harmonica is definitely not one of Hohner's high-end harmonicas. It's extremely unlikely that Hohner will manufacture a Special Gold Model Bluesband Harmonica. For the low price, don't expect too much, but don't put it into the trash category either.I managed to get a surprising amount of miles from my Bluesband harmonica. The box has been taped and retaped enough that it looks like it has been laminated. To my surprise, the D note (#4 hole) went flat...by almost an entire full step, but just about all the other notes remained intact. It's still a Hohner, so if you want a cheap harmonica to beat up on and you have no great expectation, other than to master the basics, and you are short of cash, check out the Bluesband Harmonica.

Not a toy

By freedomharp

My wife encouraged me to by a harmonica and I agreed. I bought a Marine Band that I love, and she decided she wanted one so I bought her this. Yes it is cheap, but we weren't sure if she would play. It sounds good and she enjoys it. I think this is a great 1st harmonica for those who don't know where to start. Obviously, if you want to get good you will have to by a more expensive and better quality harp, but with lots of practice it is fun to have around.

Still a good Harp

By Mad City Blues

from Madison, WI

I've got to represent for the Bluesband. This was my second harp, I think, and I've had it for about 12 years. I used to use it strictly to accompany my guitar and piano playing in a folk/rock context (Bob Dylan, etc.), and played regularily. I've played in a blues band now for a year or so and have taken to playing blues harp (as soon as I figured out how to match keys - use a harp that's a 4th higher than the key of the song - blues came fairly easy). I have a variety of other Hohner harps now including Blues Harps, Marine Bands, a Golden Melody in G (good key for the GM, thought I don't consider this a "blues" harp), and both old and new Special 20s. The botton line is that my C harp is still the Bluesband. In my opinion, my 12 year-old BB feels, plays, and sounds on par with the other Hohners. Durable reeds, great quality. I hope they're still making them the same.

Great Beginners Harp

By Stratomaster-Matt

I just picked up the harp, about a week ago. I was bored, and this harp had been given to me by a family member. I dont know a whole lot about quality, but I can tell you, that for five dollars, there is no better deal. A basic harp at a basic price. Sure its not as nice as the special 20, or any other more expensive harp, but hey, its FIVE DOLLARS. Give it a shot, I think you'll be impressed......

This is my first harmonica and it's playing really nice. I learned to play Dixie and it sounds fantastic.

Great beginner but...

By Arlen Bucy

from Plant City, FL

This harp is great for a complete beginner. I had never played and picked one up about a month ago to check it out. Two weeks later the high C went flat. I went and bought another one and today the low D went flat. So a month in and I have to buy my third harp. If you have never played and want to see if you would like it or not this is the way to go but, as soon as you decide to stick with it get something better.

Ask me a question

I got this as my second harmonica a few years back, and just recently was it classified as garbage. Although, it lasted pretty long, and I am surprised that it lasted so long with how hard I used to play. I think this is a great instrument and definitely worth it!

Pretty Good

For a beginner this is great harmonica. Nice and cheap but decent quality to get started on. Only problem I have in that 3 days after I had it I noticed when I Draw on 2 it requires more force than I would prefer doing. Still works though and I enjoy it.
