I would rate myself a novice still and was using some pretty cheap harps to learn on but most of them had weak sound (especially on the high notes) and didnt really feel like a real instrument. I had read some good reviews on this set and decided to give them a try before investing in an expensive model. I am very, very pleased. They still dont have the feel of a "top of the line" but they are awsome for the price. They are smooth to glide your lips along and the sound is nice, clear and strong on ALL the holes.By buying this set I was able to experiment in different keys and found I like a G for some songs. I also got a F and Bb to fill out the set. All are in tune and playing good. The case is nice as well and I am just really happy with this purchase.

Hot Metals are hard to play. They don't have the keys stamped on the comb. You can get one more harp of better quality if you go with the Bluesband 7 pack. Why would you do this? If you want cheap harps, go with the Bluesband. Or, if you can find them, Jambone.
I've got this set and the Bluesband set. The Bluesband harps sound better and play better. You get one more harp with the Bluesband set, AND (this is really important, believe me) the Bluesband harps have the key stamped on the front of the comb.

IMO, Bluesband harps sound better than Hot Metal and are easier to play. It's all marginal. They are both low end Hohner harps. But the ones to put on your Christmas wish list would be Bluesband.

Low end harps are good for beginners to experiment with different keys. They are also good for us somewhat advanced players to keep in the car for practice.

Plus you don't have to worry too much about playing them right after eating peanuts.....
about half the set is stiff or unresponsive on the 3, 4, and 5 draw. this set will discourage beginners and aggravate more advanced players.
I regret buying this set of hot metal harps. they are even worse than the old Jambone series, which play like Special 20's compared to these. Seriously, jump over to the Hohner Bluesband 7-piece instead.

Great Harps!

Comments about Hohner CASE OF METAL Harmonica 5-Pack:

I bought these not too long back because I really wanted to learn the harmonica, and they have served me well. They're easy to play and sound great. I also purchased a Hohner harmonica holder so I could play my harps and guitar at the same time. Overall, I'm very satisfied with my Hohner Hot Metal harps and would recommend them to anyone interested in learning harmonica.

the novice is happy!

Comments about Hohner CASE OF METAL Harmonica 5-Pack:

I bought these because playing harmonica is on my bucket list. So are the banjo and violin, but I can't afford those. Stupid college budget. Ok, these are easy to play on, compared to the other ones I previously purchased. I don't like that they start to get out of tune on the extreme ends. Almost to the piont where "icky" replaces "sharp/flat". I'm a fan of the case, though. If I decide to upgrade (after the banjo and violin, of course) it will do nicely. And my phone fits in it! I would recomend these to any beginer, especially you college kids who want to politely drive away roommates. In the end, it was worth skipping a meal or to. That's a joke. Can you smile and make me feel good? Thanks.

Comments about Hohner CASE OF METAL Harmonica 5-Pack:

I received this harmonica pack for Christmas, and I must say for the price I'm extremely impressed. The harmonicas sound great, and all 5 keys are easy to play making them especially good for beginners, or for players who just aren't that good (like me!)

Comments about Hohner CASE OF METAL Harmonica 5-Pack:

Do not let the name fool you! I bought these to play heavy metal, because of the name. I thought thy would have some wicked bad distortion, but no! These are just regular old harmonicas, not fit for screaming solos. Other than their obvious lack of br00tal, they are just fine, and work well.

Comments about Hohner CASE OF METAL Harmonica 5-Pack:

Admittedly, I am a beginning harmonica player but... I have been a working musician all my life and was able to make nice recordings with these babies pretty quickly. I also own the higher end Marine Band model in the key of C but could not detect much of a difference. The metal case contributes to a solid feel; they are in tune (an apparent problem with some other budget harmonicas). The 5-pack is a great deal and the case is nice. BTW, the case can hold 2 additional harmonicas. I bought the other 2 available Hot Metal harmonicas (F+Bb) and filled out the 5 other keys with Jambones (decent but not nearly in the same league as these).Planning to buy another 5 pack for my 10 year-old son.

You Can Do Better

Comments about Hohner CASE OF METAL Harmonica 5-Pack:

I've been playing guitar for over twenty five years. I bought these harmonicas, because I always wanted to learn to play one. I got the set thinking, "Wow five harps." There o.k for just tinkering around on and to try out different keys, but if you are serious about learning to play "don't cheap out!" I replaced these with a Hohner Special 20 in "A" and a Lee Oskar in "C". Both of these harmonicas are very good choices, but it's all up to you. You can get quantity or quality. Save your money and go for quality.

Comments about Hohner CASE OF METAL Harmonica 5-Pack:

i received my hohner case metal harmonica 5-pack and i gotta tell ya, for the price of this harp kit it is well worth it, i compared the metal harp with the hohner blues harp and they are so close sounding its unreal the blues harp is just a little easier to bend notes, i am not that good on harps mostley play it streight sometimes cross but in any case for the price you can not go wrong. i am 71 year old lead guitar player and harp player. beleive me this is a great buy, thank you muscians friend for sending so fast, Donnie, West Rutland vt.

Comments about Hohner CASE OF METAL Harmonica 5-Pack:

Disappointed that the G harp does not play all the notes. Mis-aligned reeds??? The unfortunate part is that happens to be the key I play in quite often and have had to go back to an old blues harp that is flat on the 4th hole.

Comments about Hohner CASE OF METAL Harmonica 5-Pack:

I have been playing Harps for about 30 years. I'm a guitar player who plays just enough harmonica to break up a song with a bluesy harp solo instead of another guitar solo. I play just well enough to get by. I usually buy Hohner Marine Band, Hohner Blues Harps or the Hohner Special 20 but these have gotten pretty expensive lately. This case of Hohner harps looked like a good deal getting all these harps so cheaply and after all they are Hohner harmonicas so how bad can they be? Well, these are strickly bottom of the line harmonicas. They are hard to blow thus hard to "bend" a note in a blues style. You'll be out breath within several measures trying to get a solid sound. The case is nice however and if you have never played a harmonica before I guess it is a place to start but you'll be amazed how different cheap harps are are from normal Hohner or Lee Oskar harmonicas. I'm giving the case two stars.

Comments about Hohner CASE OF METAL Harmonica 5-Pack:

These were a poor choice for me. They lasted all of 2 weeks before developing dead reeds and going terribly out of tune. only 2 of them are still playable but my band plays no songs in any key that would make them useful. I am going to buy a set of Suzuki Bluesmaster harps. They are consistent from harp to harp and I have never managed to blow one out.
