I picked up this Hohner holder from my local music shop today. GREAT PRODUCT! After playing both harmonica and guitar for sometime now it seems like a nobrainer to mix the two together. The holder it self seems very durable and feels very comfortable around the neck, HOWEVER I am much like a giraffe with a long neck. After a half an hour of playing my neck got sore from bending forward. However for smaller (normal) people it would be great. Easily adjustable and stays in place. I would suggest putting rubber or something soft where the harmonica sits because it leaves indents shaped like a circle in the bottom of the harp. As for road testing its yet to be seen but it is fairly in expensive to replace at around $25CAN. Overall cant go wrong with the easy springs and ergonomics (for average people) of this Hohner harp holder. Great product to accompany your guitar playing!

To start this review off, I play Lee Oskar harmonicas. This holder was not made for them. The harp would be pushed forward some, which meant I would have to bend my head forward to play it. When I did this, the holder would shift forward due to its design, and I would have to manually adjust it. This makes this holder annoying to use. The little holders they put on it are too long to touch the harmonica, and are just a pain. Also, this thing is HEAVY! After only about 10 minutes of use, my neck started to hurt. Another gripe is that 10 hole harmonicas look goofy in this holder. This thing is massive and heavy, and looks silly with a small 10-hole harp in it. For larger harps it'd be decent, but for 10-holes get something else. I bought a Lee Oskar holder to replace this and it works much better (probably because I use Lee Oskar harps). For the money it is okay, but there are better options out there.

This gives versatility to a small band but not on every song please!

Comments about Hohner Harmonica Neck Holder:

Gets the job done. I put some athletic tape around the area where the harmonica sits in order to provide traction and keep the harp from slipping around or falling out. Still a good product that works.

Design has to improve

By Ska

from India

Comments about Hohner Harmonica Neck Holder:

While the build quality of this apparatus isn't all that bad, there are two primary concerns:1. Some Harmonicas are not perfectly flat-form or even deep enough to be firmly held in position, despite the two fasteners/ clamps provided to support the back of the harmonica.2. [Dis]Comfort: This is a problem with many harmonica holders. The points that rest on the neck & shoulders need more cushioning support to address the discomfort from prolonged playing. Just providing a plastic piping for the neck does not do the job!

This practical harmonica neck holder is also great for kazoos. It is reliable and adds freedom to multi-sound delivery without the small instrument slipping out of the brace. This was a gift to a family member musician. I already own one.

Comments about Hohner Harmonica Neck Holder:

Don't bother with anything else, this is the neck rack you want. One wing-nut allows for a quick key-change. It holds tight, the springs are strong the harp doesn't slip in to deep or move from side to side. It's the original and you can't beat it. It's the rack that all the mouth organ players i know use and it is Strongly recommended by this active harp player.Great Product, Fair Price, You won't be disappointed.

    Not bad, but...

    Ask me a question

Comments about Hohner Harmonica Neck Holder:

The Hohner Harmonica Neck Holder is OK, but some minor changes and adjustments could improve its quality. I don't know why the lower frame is curved downwards. This unique shape makes playing a unique experience ...in an uncomfortable way. After some time, the wing-nut won't tighten enough to keep the upper frame, which holds the harmonica, from sagging out of reach. As a bassist, this deficiency becomes a major problem. Once, while playing a Hohner Golden Melody harmonica, it became loose and fell onto the floor in front of the stage. Not every musician that doubles on harmonica uses the Marine Band or Blues Harp. Others might not agree with this review. These are my personal opinions and probably won't be shared by some of the others who are reading this.I plan to make some adjustments on my Hohner Harmonica Neck Holder. A new screw, washer and wing-nut should eliminate the sagging. Some rubbers attached around the part that holds the harmonica and fixing the springs so that the harmonica is more securely attached are a few of the modifications that I have in mind.

    Not for diatonic harps

    By Weathorman

    from Omaha

    See all my reviews

Comments about Hohner Harmonica Neck Holder:

I have owned this rack for several years and many gigs. It is a high quality rack that I will probably continue to use for years as it shows no sign of wear and tear yet. However, Hohner Special 20 harps (and probably most other diatonic harps), which are what I usually play, are way too small for it, and are prone to shift or even push out the back. I have had instances where I've had to leverage the mic to keep the little sucker from falling out in the middle of a jam. Tricky. I wouldn't recommend this rack for any harp that is much less than 4.5 inches long and 1.5 inches wide. For larger harmonicas, it is absolutely worth the money.

Comments about Hohner Harmonica Neck Holder:

I bought one of these a couple years ago and I think I paid about half it's current price. Curiously they seem to have eliminated the two metal retainers on the back to keep the harmonica from pushing through and also now have a metal butterfly nut instead of the comfortable plastic covered one I have. Did they raise the price and reduce the function?

Comments about Hohner Harmonica Neck Holder:

I purchased this recently so I could accompany my guitar playing and was rather dissapointed. I'd have expected more from a top company like Honher, especially since they make the best harmonicas out there. When I use this my 10 hole tends to slide when i press my mouth to it and the design hurts my collar bones when i wear it, also i have to bend my head down to play properly, the rack does not sit nicely at all. I recommend you try out other racks first, it can depend on you height or weight i guess.

Comments about Hohner Harmonica Neck Holder:

Little experience playing harmonica, and none with a holder, I got this to try. It works fine, though I did have to adjust to it, somewhat. It is not uncomfortable, but when folding it up I have to bend forward slightly to play well to make it work best. A good deal, maybe a higher end model with a neck adjustment would be an improvement.
