Built by Hohner expressly to meet the unique needs of the harp player.

The Hoodoo Box is a 5W, Class A, hand-wired tube amp combo designed especially for harmonica players. Built from the ground up to produce the fat, distorted tones that are the cornerstone of the electric blues harp sound, it is equipped with a single EL84 power tube and a 12 AX7 plus 12 AU7 tube complement in the preamp stage. Its classic spring reverb will add drama and air to your performances while the Celestion Super 8 8" speaker is especially suited to reproduce the entire range of harp tones. The XLR direct output can be used for recording or as a send to the front of house PA.

The Tone control helps you dial in the right sound with a range that goes from Dark to Bright to Scooped, the latter setting giving you a flat-out, heavily distorted sound. The Hoodoo Box will bring out the best in your harp technique as well as your mics. From growls and soulful wailing to dynamic virtuosity, the Hoodoo Box will bring these sounds and more to your harmonica playing.

The roadworthy Hoodoo Box cabinet features classic styling with rugged Tolex covering, white piping, and special Hohner grille cosmetics.

What a piece of ! I was hoping to get a harp only amp that would embellish/honk give some growl that my guitar amps of same size could deliver before feedback...did not happen! Green Bullet/Astatic JT-30 RH both sound thin..better off playin threw the P.A.Very dissappointed

      Great little amp

Comments about Hohner Hoodoo Box 5W Harmonica Tube Amp:

I bought one of these that had been badly damaged in shipping and didn't even power up, I repaired it and substituted a 12ax7 for the 12au7 to use it as a guitar amp. I was pleasantly surprised how good this amp sounds at this price point. Bottom line this amp is a total winner for guitar and/or harp!!!!

Comments about Hohner Hoodoo Box 5W Harmonica Tube Amp:

I've been playing with this for the last 2 years gigging almost every weekend. The only thing that has broken is the Hohner name plate fell off along the way. I'm living fine without the name on the front. This has been a great beginners to intermediate amp for harp players because it has a "ready made" harp player tone control knob, it's compact, the power chord can be replaced by any computer power chord, the line out makes up for it's small stage volume or you can mic it, it's very very sturdy, and it doesn't look half bad. The cons i've come across are it's low overall volume capabilities, there is only that "tone" knob a volume and a gain, and the face plate may fall off. Eventually I'll probably move on to a larger amp, but only because I want something louder and something with more knob choices.

      Hoodoo fun

Comments about Hohner Hoodoo Box 5W Harmonica Tube Amp:

I use the Hoodoo for practice and gigs and I have been very happy with it. This amp adds some great tones to the average players' chops. If you have been looking for an amp with some cool blues sounds, I recommend the hoodoo. The amp is small and can't compete on its own with wailing guitars, but the line out allows you to feed the mains. Very solid construction and it looks great too.

Comments about Hohner Hoodoo Box 5W Harmonica Tube Amp:

I purchased the hoodoo box to use it with an electric guitar. I switched one of the tubes to a tungsol 12AX7. After the switch the amp sounds much better (for guitar). I can only compare it with kustom tube 12a, roland microcube and the entry level solid state fender amps: the hoodoo box sounds better than those. The eq/tone settings are designed for harmonica so it takes some tweaking to avoid a "boxy" sound. The spring reverb sounds good.

I own it and use it

Comments about Hohner Hoodoo Box 5W Harmonica Tube Amp:

I have played through this amp about 20 times as of 6/27/08. The enclosure feels sturdy but is made of particle board. I'm sure there are a lot more amps out there made of the same material so it's no big deal. The packaging was good and it arrived in good shape. One of the clips that hold the tubes in place wasn't on the tube, but the tube didn't fall out in transit. The Amp can be made to sound clean or distorted as advertized. During my inital use on stage I was told by the sound man that the amp sounded "tinny" compaired with my other amp. I turned the tone control knob more to the dark side and the problem went away. The XLR out is a nice feature and helps out with the minimal amplification 5 watts isn't nearly enough to play a big room over the other instruments. I use the amp. For a stage monitor and send the signal to the mixing board to get the signal bumped up. Feed back hasn't been a problem with this amp. So far, I use a green bullet and a standard vocal mic at times. So far I'm happy but the price is more than I think it's really worth. Another thing, there apparently is no warenty on this amp. The enclosed warrenty card only mentions Mic's and insturments? I plan on keeping it though there may be others out there that may be better and cost less. I read Epi valve Jr's are good but they don't have a line out.

      Great start

Comments about Hohner Hoodoo Box 5W Harmonica Tube Amp:

I've been playing harp for ten years and I was excited to see Hohner producing a harp specific amp. It sounds great out of the box and has only gotten better with breaking in the tube and speaker. Wattage is a little small for the serious gigs, but it is a nice perk to have a line out. Great amp for the intermediate player getting introduced to the style of amplified harp or to any harp player looking for an affordable practice set up or jammin amp.

      The Sound Of Silence

      By xbFVCs8iT

      from Undisclosed

Comments about Hohner Hoodoo Box 5W Harmonica Tube Amp:

I was really looking forward to playing this amp. It came with the Hohner Blues Blaster mic. The mic box was crushed and mangled, but still works fine (I only know this because I had to try it with another amp. The amp, on the other hand, was tightly packed in its box, but won't make a sound. Plugged in, with power clearly going to the amp, it doesn't it is silent. I will be shipping it back and giving them another chance - we'll see.
