Comments about Hohner HPN5 Harmonica Pouch 5-Pack:

I wanted to be able to attach 3-4 harmonicas to my guitar and banjo straps strap, so I'd have access to them between songs. So I read what this said about "belt loops" and figured I could use the "belt loops" to click onto my instrument straps.

Foolishly, I assumed that they would attach vertically, like virtually every other product in this category. Nothing in the materials suggests otherwise. In fact the materials talk about fastening all five to your belt at once.

They attach horizontally. There's an elastic strap that you are supposed to run your belt through when you're putting on your pants. But instead of attaching vertically, which I could make work, they attach horizontally. So each harp takes up 4.5" of your belt. Which is to say, if you have a banjo or guitar body resting on one hip, you can really only use two of these (over the opposite hip), or three if you're "jumbo-sized."

I guess the guys who wrote the advertising copy had the idea that you'd be able to unzip the right case and pull out the correct harp without throwing out your back even if the pouches were attached over your kidneys or the small of your back. I don't have eyes in the back of my head, double-jointed elbows, or any great desire to look like I've tied a string of black sausages around my waist.

And when you are done playing you'd have to take your belt off to put them away. In some places I play, starting to undress when I came off the platform would make people nervous.

And don't even think about putting them on a banjo or guitar strap which is why I wanted them. The instrument strap is an inch wider than the little elastic strap on the pouch, so it just bunches the strap up. And, again, I would only have room for two harps, not 3 or 4, which is what I wanted.

They ARE semi-rigid plastic with what seems to be a nylon covering and a zipper. So they will protect your harp from being invaded by pennies or some such if you stick it in your pocket.

So, if you're looking for a present for a harp-playing amateur who tends to kill his or her harps by sticking them in pockets with loose change and car keys, this is a good choice.

But if I just needed to protect my harps, I'd just carry the little plastic boxes they came in everywhere. I need to carry multiples onstage and this does NOT work for that.
