As a solo act I play Americana/ early Blues guitar and harmonica styles. As an ensemble player I perform blues, rock and country music with electric bands. Hohner harmonicas have been included in my instrumentation since 1966, including Marine Band, Special 20 and Blues Harps, Blues Band and Pocket Pal diatonic harmonicas. My go to harmonicas are custom instruments. I purchased my first Crossover on Joe Filisko's recommendation (I was using Spec. 20's). I needed a back-up while a custom harmonica was beng repaired. This is my second Crossover purchase because the Crossover is very close to a custom harp. The air-tight bamboo comb requires very little air pressure to get a full, bright sound from this instrument. It allows you to play at contrasting dynamic levels, supports your tempo, hand effects and rhythm effects. It sounds great miked through a Sure SM58, Astatic JT30 or Harmonica Honker (pinkie mic) or plalying acoustic. I gave this instrument a 9 because custom harps are 10's. This harmonica is as good as it gets out of the box. As my back-ups wear out, I will replace them with Crossovers. I highly recommend the Hohner Crossover M2009 Harmonica.
Very light, feels great in the hand. Air-tight seal, bamboo comb and spot on intonation produce bright, robust tone with minimum of breath pressure. Bends are immediate, easy to play at all dynamic levels. I love the option of do it yourself replacement of the reed plates when needed.
This is an excellent out of the box harmonica.
Great price from Musician's Friend.

It seems this hohner bends tooooo easy. To get a solid 2 draw sound is impossible on the Bflat I purchased. No volume...to try to get some volume is to bend the note down. In the same price range, I prefer the marine band deluxe. Next at a lesser price is the special 20. These are my two most player friendly out of the box hohners for now. Nice enough marketing on the part of hohner, but to move into the custom harp market with mass modding a deluxe is a rough road. I would pay more for a hohner custom harp if the tuning specs were tighter. My 2cents.

Comments about Hohner Marine Band Crossover Harmonica M2009:
I bought my first Marine Band in 1965. Throughout the years I have used all of the Marine Band & Blues Harps (& Lee Oskar's for minor keys), and they were good. I thought I would try out the Crossover, and Hohner just changed the definition of good to great. Of course, I will keep my old harps, but I'm changing out my working set with Crossover harps.

Comments about Hohner Marine Band Crossover Harmonica M2009:
Hohner has taken the Marine Band Harmonica to a whole new level of trustworthy harmonica sound, and playable ease of this timeless instrument with the CROSSOVER model. I own 9 of them in the different key signatures that I use and they BRING it on every single note.

Comments about Hohner Marine Band Crossover Harmonica M2009:
Always wanted to try a top tier harmonica, and got this one at a good price from MF, but I'm a little disappointed. Has more volume than any harp I've had, but tone is a little harsh. Takes very little air to play except for 1,2&3 draw. Takes a lot of pull before you get the sound out of them making for a slight hesitation while playing. I'll stick to special 20s, Lee Oskars or Golden Melodies for gigs.

had a cheaper horner prior to this gift. This is far superior. It is used in a country/rock band.

Comments about Hohner Marine Band Crossover Harmonica M2009:
This harmonica sounds great when played through a standard PA microphone. I haven't tried it with a Green Bullet yet, but it is plenty bluesy without it. High notes are clear, and the low end doesn't get lost. Very easy to bend the notes.

Comments about Hohner Marine Band Crossover Harmonica M2009:
This would be a good harmonica for keys in the lower range such as A, G and maybe Low F. It is very air tight and loud. My only problem with it is the rigid feel compared with the special 20 and other more ergonomic models. It also has some engravings on the plates that you feel on your lips when playing. I'm impressed but likely to only purchase these for low end keys.

Comments about Hohner Marine Band Crossover Harmonica M2009:
I've played/tried at least a dozen different harp brands/models, and this one is clearly the best out of the box harp I've tried. It plays smoothly, fluidly, easily and consistently across the whole harp. I'm a Golden Melody player primarily - now with added after market bamboo combs - and the Crossover with its stock bamboo comb is a sweet harp. If you're a Marine Band player, and don't mind the high cost of this harp, you really want to try the Crossover. I got mine at a special MF promo price, but I wouldn't pay retail price for them.

Comments about Hohner Marine Band Crossover Harmonica M2009:
Yeah, this'll do the trick. Everything that I dont like about standard Marine Bands is reversed. Leaky tacked together construction? Try well made, tightly fitting bolted and screwed hardware. Rough pearwood comb that shreds your lips? Try well rounded, laquered bamboo. Poor gapping on reeds? This is pretty good out the box. Cruddy hard to bend notes? This bends like it should up and down and then some. The only thing I like about Marine Bands, the tone: well, make it louder and cracklier, that's a crossover talking. Mine's been going strong for 3 months now and I haven't even had to slightly retune a single reed, & it even overblows OK too...the only small downside is I've got big hands, I kind of prefer bigger harps but 9 outta ten is great. Oh, the belt pouch is classic too, nice extra there..
