This was my first harmonica. I still have it and play it today. I have had this Harmonica for 20 years. It is not as crisp as it was when it was new but I still use it when I jam. It may be a different quality in todays times but the harp I have has served me well. It is also more comfortable than some other much more expensive harmonicas I own.

being honest, ive been playing for quite some time, and this harmonica is pretty decent. the bends arent terrible and for 6 or 7 bucks you can really use this. throw it in your car or just right in your pocket with no case(because its not even worth it). its an awesome harmonica to take apart and check it out, if you tighten the screws on the inside you can get a little better tone of of it. plays the major scales really well and the bends are good. the only real problem is that it isnt airtight, so the chords take massive breaths, but its pretty good for beginners, and i use it myself even with a lot of experience

Comments about Hohner Pocket Pal Harmonica:

I have a couple of great pocket pals. This is not one of them. It does not play in tune over a good part of the instrument. There is more air loss than air capture. For the price, it is worth rolling the dice. Maybe the next one will play as well as some of my past pocket pals.

Comments about Hohner Pocket Pal Harmonica:

Got a couple of these for my kids. The build quality on the new ones isn't quite as good as the one I've had since childhood, but it's fun for them to play. It's a little hard to blow and the tone is inconsistent from reed to reed. If you want to play harmonica seriously, I'd spend a little extra and get a Special 20 or Blues Harp or the equivalent.

      Not worth it

      By HoQ8r7z3K

      from Undisclosed

Comments about Hohner Pocket Pal Harmonica:

Within a month two of the reeds broke, and two others went flat. I may have just gotten a bad one, but it was still severely disappointing. This was my first harmonica and was teaching myself how to play and kept getting discouraged because I couldn't produce good notes. I kept playing thinking it was just me until I met someone who knew how to play and they told me about the flat notes and busted reeds. Overall i'm not angry because it was so cheap, but if I had to do it again I would just go for a Lee Osker major diatonic or a special 20 right off the bat.

      poorly made harp

      By koolblues

      from Memphis

Comments about Hohner Pocket Pal Harmonica:

The Pocket Pal is a poorly made harp. I had one where a reed dies after only a couple days of play. Get a Hohner Old Standby instead, similar price and much better quality.

      Ok, but not great

      By Kokeyama

      from Miami Beach, FL

Comments about Hohner Pocket Pal Harmonica:

The Hohner Pocket Pal is absolutely an okay harp for a kids/beginners, or for casual/throwaway use. Anyone that seriously wants to learn to play, or already knows a bit would be better off with a Hohner Special 20, Marine Band, or Lee Oskar, all a little more expensive but still very affordable, serious and professional instruments.

      My first...

      By bluesguru

      from Alabama

Comments about Hohner Pocket Pal Harmonica:

This was my first harmonica, it served me well for about 5 years, then it got a bit worn out and I blew a few reeds. Great value harmonica. I would recommend it to any beginner, or anyone who plays.

      Good Starter Harp

Comments about Hohner Pocket Pal Harmonica:

This is a good harp for people who are just starting. I'm not a big Hohner fan, and I this was my first harmonica, but it is still good quality. The only issue I have is that after a few years the reeds are weak o the draw from 5 up, but that can be expected. I thik this is definitely an option that should be considered when purchasig your first harp.

      Best for Beginners

Comments about Hohner Pocket Pal Harmonica:

This was my first harmonica, and it served me well. I still have it, though I don't use it often after I got a Special 20. This is the best harmonica that you can get for this price.
