When I bought my first XB-40, I was warned by the harp-specialist dealer to carefully break it in -- that it takes time, several episodes of gentle blowing and drawing, or else you'll have trouble. I guess I did not break in my second enough; it has a couple of sour reeds now in the middle of the scale, and pretty much zaps that key for performance. BUT -- I WILL buy a replacement, and hope that this time I can break it in so that it reponds and lasts. I have been playing 40 years, often professionally, (recorded and soloed to crowds of 10,000), and I really love the size and the sound and the range of this harp. I never had trouble bending the Marine Bands to the max, so this is a breeze. It's range is so wide that i am now playing jazz solos with relative ease. Yes, some people you jam with mistake it for a chromatic, but you really can get a bit dirty if work at it. Love the deep tones from the bass notes! 'Cuz of the price, Not exactly an expendab[e harp after 3 months. I hope they can manufacture them withstand hard blowing and not blow out reeds. All in all, an admirable innovation. This thing has such potential, that I would be fearless in any blues-harp cutting contest with those diehard purists with their itty-biity conventional diatonics! Me and XB-40 Will blow you away, Jack!

I have been playing harp for about 15 years and I was very excited about this harp. I thought it must be a great harp to cost 3 times the amount of any good quality harp. So I went ahead and paid the price. And I was totally 100% disapointed! It not only is made for giants with the holes big enough to french kiss. It plays and sounds like crap! Anyone who thinks this is a good harp is playing Bob Dylan style music! I feel like I was totaly ripped off for the money I paid for this totaly worthless 3 year olds toy. Go ahead and buy one if you want to totaly waste your money. I only wrote this review to maybe warn those who will take heed that this is the worst harp ever made! Honner makes alot of great harps get three of them!Mine will be giving to some 3 year old kid. I sure it will make him/her happy and I guess that will make the waste of good money a bit easier to take.

Comments about Hohner XB-40 Extreme Bending Harmonica:
This is a great harp and is my second XB40. My first one was of standard size while this one is about 50% larger with accompanying difference in hole spacing. I would have preferred original format. Bends well but takes practice on 2, 9, & 10. I would recommend.
Comments about Hohner XB-40 Extreme Bending Harmonica:

Comments about Hohner XB-40 Extreme Bending Harmonica:
Nice harp, but at a great price and the plastic reeds did not last. Buy a crossover
Comments about Hohner XB-40 Extreme Bending Harmonica:
Perhaps I got a lemmon. Don't be fooled by the ad for this harp. I sent mine back after the first day. mine rattled on the low notes, overall poor sound and one reed was out of tune. You will be happier with a Hohner Crossover at almost have the price/twice the quality and sound.
Comments about Hohner XB-40 Extreme Bending Harmonica:
This harp is amazing, allowing you to bend on just about all blow and draw holes. Although it is a little pricey, it's worth it. I found out that they are making some additional keys and I have to get at least a couple more. The tone is great and works on blues, classical and country/rock. This harp makes you sound better than the pros because I want to see them bend a t draw down a whole tone. You can't.
Comments about Hohner XB-40 Extreme Bending Harmonica:
I used it for about a year, and it does all that it claims to. Bends around the corner with great tone. But, after that year, plastic reeds were in my mouth and it all went out of tune. Need another one. Expected more from a harmonica costing over one hundred dollars.
Comments about Hohner XB-40 Extreme Bending Harmonica:
I bought a one of these in the key of G and have had very good service out of it. Some people can't believe the tone and how the notes can be bent. I was thinking about getting one in thekey of E but was surprized when I saw the price! It has TRIPPLED!!! I can't afford to buy one now.
Comments about Hohner XB-40 Extreme Bending Harmonica:
If you can bend on regular harps, stick with what you have! Contrary to popular belief, the reeds can be blown; I blew one out the first time I played with a group. SEVERELY disappointed.
Comments about Hohner XB-40 Extreme Bending Harmonica:
Make Sure you know you want to buy this harmonica before getting one. It has wind saver valves like on the hohner auto valve and chromatic harmonicas. This is not a bad thing but can make this harp a pain to take care of and maintain. Remember this thing also has twice as many reeds which are specially made so replacing them or fixing them is different from regular diatonics. Obviously I'll save the best for last...for the price of this, it's not worth buying. I think I'd rather get an octave harp and play blues on that.
