This is a great sounding and easy playing mandoline. Much better than I thought it would be. No problems at all.
And I just have to add how pleased I have been with Musician's Friend customer service. They have been great any time that I have had a problem.
Electric pick-ups with Vol and tone controls work great.
Plays great, sounds good. Tunes easy and holds tune. Nice looking instrument.
Thought I would have to pay much more for a nice mandoline.

Good electrical amplification if you have modern mains to plug into.Good accoustic volume for small spacegroup or closed in playing.Excellent fit and finish.Definitely worth your consideration for an entry or intermediate level mandolin with electric capabilities.Sweet sound.
Overall I was impressed by this elelctric/accoustic model mandolin, M511SEDVS by Ibanez.
There were several mandolins in stock from the el cheapo to a few high priced models. This was the only electric model on display when I bought it. Sound was overall good. Easy to tune and intonate even though I had the staff initially do it before I walked out the store. Be sure to remove the thin foam padding underneath the bridge on initial set up. The fit and finish were very nice. The original strings appeared tarnished so I got new ones on the deal. I had to get a hard case with it; that was extra. I know from experience that a soft case was a waste of time or money for me since it was probably going to get a ding or two while carrying it around.
Initially with new strings it would go out of tune relatively quickly. After about week 2 it began to settle down and actually held it's tune through a long playing session. It held the tuning pretty closely even overnight. The single coil pickup was fine, but no ball of fire lot a hot rodded Strat. With good grounded electric sources the amplified sound was very sweet even through my bass amplifier which is the only clean channel amp I have available for it.
My wife loves it for Christmas and some gospel music. My oldest boy loves it so he can play some Led Zeppelin songs. We have been happy with the acquisition.
Good fit and finish. Volume without electric amplification wasn't bad at all. Strings were already tarnished so I had to replace them. I've owned it for several months now and am very happy with it. It will hold it's tune overnight after the strings get stretched and stable. Intonation was easy and the bridge is somewhat adjustable for action height. The tone knob on mine was loose. Easy to tighten it, but should have been caught before it left the factory.
Got it with a discount coupon so the money saved went to a hard case. This is a somewhat good investment so I wanted to protect with more than a cheapo gig bag. Plays as well as some more expensive models. Get new strings upon initial set up.

This mandolin came very poorly set up. Each pair of strings came too close to each other. Instead of each pair of strings being separated by 3.5 mm, there were only 2 mm of separation which looked awful, so I had to sand the top of the bridge and re-slot it in order to get a correct separation in the strings. Also, the bridge was too close to the fretboard, so I had to calibrate it in order to achieve a good tuning. The nut and tha action was too high, so I myself had to adjust it. Once properly set up, this mando plays easily, although the treble side (E strings) is rather weak (at least in this particular instrument) which means that if you don't amplify it, its sound is poor and lacks punch. However, once you plug it in, this mando sounds very well even in the treble side. So, in short, once this Ibanez mandolin is properly set up, it will play very nicely when amplified which means that its pick up works fine. I strongly recommend to the "luthiers" that make this mandolin to improve the quality control and final inspection in order to avoid delivering the product very poorly set up. The Ibanez brand used to be a fine one, so it deserves to be taken care of.
Nice pick up. This mando sounds good once pluged in.
Good quality, well finished, good looking.
If properly set up, this mandolin has a good value for its price.
