Comments about Ibanez UKS50 Ukulele Soprano Figured Koa:
After looking for a ukulele in mid- price range, I was disappointed to not find anything I like in the local stores. So I took the plunge and ordered this. This Ibanez uke is beautiful - the pearl inlay on the soundboard is really well-done. And the instrument sounds very nice - I'm just waiting for the sound to "open up" after playing a few more months.
I have to say though, that one of the strings keep coming loose faster than all the other ones. I have a feeling that's not going to get fixed...
Comments about Ibanez UKS50 Ukulele Soprano Figured Koa:
I must admit when I first ordered this uke I was a little concerned about the quality. Every photo of this uke I could find seemed to be the same one, which if you look closely shows one of the tuners as being crooked as well as the bridge. Not to worry this is a quality built uke with a beautiful finish! Right out of the box I was also a little concerned about the muted tone and low volume, but this was my first solid wood soprano size uke I've ever purchased. Over time the more you play it the more the stress from manufacture will relax from the wood and the tone gets much sweeter and volume louder. The only reason I rated this 4.5 out of 5 is because just as another reviewer I found the shape of the headstock caused the neck to be a little cramped when playing by the nut. It isn't a big concern and you get used to it. This is a great uke for the price and you will soon be happy you made this purchase. I would buy it again without giving it a second thought. I hopes this helps with any questions you might have. There are very few ratings to be found on this uke.
Comments about Ibanez UKS50 Ukulele Soprano Figured Koa:
The quality, finish and accessories are top grade. The Grover tuners put it in an upper class. The intonation was great right out of the bag. Would like to have more room by the nut. This is an issue for people with larger hands. Chords played by the nut are a bit challenging, as the tuners and neck will get in the way. Comes with a decent gig bag. Mine has travelled around the world since I got it in February 2010. I replaced the g string with a wound string, and dropped it an octave. Made the instrument sound bigger.
