From the moment I pulled it out of the box, I could tell that is a well crafted uke. Every piece of wood is a good songwood and you can definitely hear the difference from knock off brands. However, order some different strings for this instrument when you buy it, the ones that it comes with are not the best in the world. A good set of martins will make this ukulele flawless.
It has strings, a neck, and a soundhole. What more could you want?
Amazing sound quality. Unlike the cheaper counterparts, it keeps in tune all the way down the neck. The instrument has an amazing timbre that you will love from the first time you strum it.
Worth way more than I payed for it. Amazing value.

Got this on the SDOD. Arrived at me house in awesome shape. Went to tune... And nothing but trouble. Thought I had some dead strings, an MF sent me out a nice set of Martins for free. Took it to my set up guy, and he told me the strings were fine, but the nut was pinching the strings too tight and causing troubles. Old strings off, minor setup done, and new strings on. Now, it plays like a dream.

Comments about Kohala KP-B Kanikapila Baritone Ukulele:

I got this as s Stupid Deal, so it was a bargain (along with MF's famous FREE SHIPPING!!). For some weird reason, the ukulele is very popular with adolescent girls (or anyone who can see any reason for the existence of Taylor Swift, Zooey Deschanel, of the band Train). As a guitar teacher I have had an income opportunity, but I like to "leave the door open" so to speak, for a switch to guitar. I use the Mexican vihuela, a wacky 6-string "guitarlele", and now the baritone uke to introduce these kids to new and bigger frequency ranges. This one is pretty solidly made and will serve its purpose very well. Thanks, Musician's Friend!

Comments about Kohala KP-B Kanikapila Baritone Ukulele:

Having some lutherie skills, I was not put-off by the issue of a loose neck joint. I considered that to be part of the price of admission for such a great instrument at a ridiculous price. Very pleased, after gluing it up and clamping it over night. Wonderful to take on trips as a passenger in the car. Who needs a radio?

Good sounding baritone ukulele. The nice part of a baritone is it is tuned like the four top strings on a guitar, less of a learning curve if you're a guitar player.

I was looking for a uke that my family could pick up and play. This is a good place to start. Bigger than a 'standard' uke and tuned to top 4 strings of a guitar (EBGD). Still has the uke sound for lots of radio songs out right now.

Comments about Kohala KP-B Kanikapila Baritone Ukulele:

This is my first ever uke so I did not know what to expect. This is a baritone uke, meaning this is the biggest of all the ukes. I had to google the tuning for this. I used the DGBE tuning to get the best sound. The sound for GCEA is just too low. Anyway, I bought this for my daughter but I ended up using it a lot. It is great for practice since the frets are smaller. It came with average strings and it will sound much better if you invest on better strings. I got this on Stupid Deal so I got my money's worth. Plus it came with a gig bag and a nice little tuner. Hope this helps.

I play most anything with strings. I've avoided Ukes because they're pretty basic, and my wife hates the sound. But... I went ahead and bought this on a whim intending to only play it when the wife wasn't around. But wow... what fun... there's a whole genre of music I never even considered, but what a joy to experience - AND PLAY! You have to learn "Over the Rainbow/Wonderful World" in the style of Israel Kamakawiwo'ole. OK... so I'm late to the game, and everyone knows this tune, but I didn't. Morale of the story... if you're a good musician, buy a uke... it will open up a bit more music than you expect.

            A baby classical guitar

Comments about Kohala KP-B Kanikapila Baritone Ukulele:

They do a very good job making a basic instrument here. The only flaws I found were a tiny bit of glue on the body and one of the highest frets was bent a little.

Setup was pretty easy, there was a shim under the bridge that I pulled out and that lowered the action. Nut was actually very well done on mine.

Sound is nicely resonant, maybe a little dark. It really sounds as much like a classical guitar as a ukulele. For me, I got this instead of a classical guitar to work on fingerpicking and it has worked great for that.

The "package" this thing comes in is very cheap. The gig bag is more like a dust cover, I haven't got the tuner to work properly, and the book is a total joke. The book is so bad, literally a poorly done Islander patois that explains almost nothing except that the uke is about island style. A decent chord sheet would have been more useful. In fact, the book makes me question the seriousness of the entire brand!

If you get it on a Stupid Deal like I did, five stars. Regular price, four stars
