A Great Way To Start Ukin'

Please note that these ratings are based on the fact that this is a very inexpensive instrument... That being said, my friend had purchased one of these ukes in 2007 or 08 for an anti-folk band we were playing in at the time.  After he moved away, I needed to add a ukulele to my collection.  I have explored every corner of the vast world of super cheap traditional instruments on Musicians Friend.  I work for a non-profit homeless shelter, so obviously I can't afford to pick up a new instrument unless it's priced like a Rogue. (Incidentally, the spider square neck resonator and violin bass are awesome, cheap starter instruments.)  It's hit or miss, but at least you can get the hang of a totally different instrument without going bankrupt.  This ukulele is fantastic for such a low price.  Out of the box, you have to let the strings break in for a day or two before it holds perfect tune, (as with any low-priced nylon stringed instrument) but after that, it's truly a gem.  It has a very bright, high, treble tone.  The sound is very unique, the feel of the instrument is very natural, and it's great to tote it around if you need something portable to keep your fingers busy.  Playing this instrument has led me to discover my love for the ukulele. So much so, that I have since upgraded my instrument, and continued to learn more and more.  It's too bad you can't include URL's in your reviews, or I could give you an idea of what this instrument sounds like recorded...  I, Josh Nonnenmocher, do have a Reverbnation and Myspace music profile if that helps.  "Here's mud in your eye!"

This would be my second ukulele, and this one is much better than my my first. ( Although I'm not sure my first one was worth comparing anything to.) It has a great rich sound that I'd never would have expected. As far as looks go, I really like the white binding in contrast with the dark nato wood. The strings it comes with are white not black, but that didn't really matter to me. I didn't have any problem with the quality of the strings that came with it, but then again I've never been to picky about my strings. Came perfectly playable. There are a few dings in the finish of the face and headstock, but I kinda like them. Gives it character I guess.

The sound is simply amazing, its very clear and loud. For a instrument under $70 it is made with amazing quality. When I opened the box the only thing I had to do was tune it, other than that it came absolutely ready to play. I would recommend this as a great uke to learn on or for a experienced player who wants to have that unique pineapple sound.

I was looking for a ukulele because a 12 string guitar is a hard thing to carry to school, so I went to the music store downtown to look at their selection. I had heard of Lanikai, and especially their pineapple ukes. I picked it up, had it tuned, played it, and brought it home. After I got home I learned more chords and such and found out what a great deal it was. Mine stays in tune particularly well, and it's loud too. I'm still experimenting with it and can't seem to put it down. The portability helps with my addiction to it. For the price it has fantastic quality and value and all that junk. Try it if you want to get into playing ukulele, and for those who already play, try it anyway because it's a great deal.

I am new to the ukulele so I don't have any experience to compare to this uke to, but I have to say I am very impressed!  It is very small, but it has a big, rich sound.  Some have complained about the strings, but so far so good with the ones that came with it.  It is really beautiful and I can't wait to play this for many years to come.
