OVERVIEW

Beautiful appointments and exotic tonewood make this a beauty to behold.

Design, sound, and function are all key elements in creating the finest ukuleles in the world - but it's the attention to detail that sets Lanikai apart from the crowd. Built with hand-selected tonewoods directly from the Big Island of Hawaii, Lanikai's new NKTU-C Solid Koa Concert Ukulele sounds just as beautiful as it looks.

On top of that, Lanakai's critically acclaimed TunaUke Technology solves the age-old problem of poor intonation on the short scaled ukulele with up to 90% improved intonation. Innovation, tradition, and detailed design make the NKTU-C a premium choice for the independent-minded ukulele player ready to for an instrument as unique as their own sound. Performance-ready with looks to match, as only Lanikai can deliver.

TunaUke Technology - A Ukulele Revolution!
The sweet tone of the ukulele has been heard around the world - from the most prestigious stages to the most remote beaches, leaving a smile everywhere it goes! In the midst of all of that joy however, one problem has always remained - ukuleles have terrible intonation! Play a simple chord and a ukulele sounds beautiful - but play something more advanced, play with other instruments, or move further up the neck and the problem becomes clear. If the ukulele was to claim and keep its place as a world-class instrument, it's intonation must be fixed. Three years, and a fleet of mechanical engineers later, Lanikai Ukuleles is proud to present TunaUke, a revolutionary system that improves ukulele intonation by 90% and opens a new world of possibilities for writing, performing, and simply enjoying a more-musical ukulele than ever before.

Two Features Driving Intonation Innovation
The first is the compensated nut. Between the four strings the differences in string width and tension are substantial. By compensating the distance between the first fret and the nut we are able to make open chords sound as smooth as silk.

Those Saddles Move
The second feature is the movable saddle. Traditional straight saddles on a ukulele or any other fretted instrument are detrimental to good intonation. With nylon strings even "compensated saddles" are a complete fallacy. The issue is that nylon strings are by their nature, inconstant. After much testing we found the only way to improve on this is to create movable saddle technology to allow the player to adjust the amount of compensation for each string. No tools are required and adjusting the intonation is as easy as pouring milk on cereal.

Keep On Strummin
There are many issues that cause poor intonation and TunaUke Technology solves them all. With this technology there is over a 90% improvement! For the first time ever in the history of the instrument you can overcome all the obstacles and have a ukulele that plays open chords in tune all the way up the neck.

Comments about Lanikai NKTU-C Solid Koa TunaUke Concert Ukulele:

Really like the easily adjustable saddle. Comes with high action saddles, Musicians friend sending me low action to change out. (both are available) Ukulele looks nice sounds clear and projects well.
Only thing I do not like is the high gloss lacquer finish. Description clearly states "hand rubbed oil finish" on the body. I hate fingerprints!

Comments about Lanikai NKTU-C Solid Koa TunaUke Concert Ukulele:

I am the boyfriend of the reviewer who bought this uke for their boyfriend. First things first, this ukulele is incredible. I am a guitar player first, and intonation is very important to me, so when I saw this ukulele with saddle adjustments I was blown away. It even has a compensated nut, which basically means that once this thing is in tune and the strings have stretched, it will absolutely sing. This is my third ukulele and so far my very favorite. The solid koa top has a very bright and balanced tone with a well pronounced bottom end. A common problem with short scale instruments such as a concert ukulele is intonation and bass response, which this instrument does beautifully in both regards. For the price, this ukulele is unbeatable. It is my second Lanikai and I have only wonderful things to say about them. My only complaint is a very small chip in the bottom edge of the ukulele. It does make it a bit sharp to hold and I will probably fill it with something, but it is purely cosmetic and will not affect the sound or durability of the instrument. For some, this defect will be a deal breaker, but tone and playability are the most important things for me and this uke certainly delivers.

Comments about Lanikai NKTU-C Solid Koa TunaUke Concert Ukulele:

I got this after about a month of research as a gift for my boyfriend. This is a reasonable price for the wood type and the fact that most of it is solid. I'll update once he opens it and give an expert opinion.

Comments about Lanikai NKTU-C Solid Koa TunaUke Concert Ukulele:

This is a top quality Uke. Truly a beautiful instrument with a great sound. What separates this apart from slightly less expensive models? Solid tone wood body, maple binding instead of plastic on other models. And, of course, the beautiful abalone trimming. For the price, this can't be beat.
