Can't adjust string height at the bridge

Comments about Lanikai Solid Spruce Top TunaUke Equipped Baritone Ukulele:

I'm a competent luthier, and I like buying inexpensive stringed instruments and tweaking the setup.

I also was quite impressed with Lanakai's invention of a way to put compensation adjustable saddles on an acoustic instrument, to improve intonation. Seems like a brilliant idea. So I jumped at the chance to purchase this baritone uke when it went on sale.

Unfortunately, the instrument came with the action way too low. I would normally deal with that by shimming up the saddle, but the special "Tuna-Uke" saddles prevent that. I saw no way to raise the string height at the bridge, so I returned the instrument.

Otherwise, this looked like a good instrument and a good value. But I've lost my enthusiasm for the Tuna-Uke compensation-adjustable saddle concept. I suppose everything would have been fine had the action been reasonable. But if the action is off (as it was here), you're stuck. What you gain in compensation adjustment you apparently lose in string height adjustment. Better to be able to adjust the action to insure a playable instrument, and endure close-enough intonation (which is rarely problematic in a nylon-strung instrument anyway).

Lowest quality "instrument" I've received in 3 decades

Comments about Lanikai Solid Spruce Top TunaUke Equipped Baritone Ukulele:

I don't even know what to say on this. I can't believe they ever shipped it from the factory. Nothing about it worked, it was seemingly unsanded, buzzed litterally from headstock throughout the entire body. It was a real trinket. Just complete junk. I'll not buy another lanikai product ever most likely after this one.
