OVERVIEW

A sweet deal on these premium harps and carrying case.

Includes 5 Lee Oskar Major Diatonic Harmonicas (keys of G, A, C, D, and F - lowest to highest) and a hardshell harmonica case to carry them.

The Major Diatonic Harmonicas are more airtight, easier to bend, and better sounding than most other harps.

The hardshell harmonica case features a black Tolex cover, imitation leather accents with creme piping, a plush interior, and a locking latch under the handle. Holds 20 diatonic and 2 chromatic harmonicas. Removable tray, plenty of room for cables, microphone, and accessories.

Built in Japan to his exacting standards and incorporating new techniques and materials, it was in 1983 that Lee Oskar introduced his new harmonica. The radically different harp design grew out of Lee's frustration with the lack of quality and consistency in the mouth harps of the day. The design also benefited from Oskar's insights as a seasoned recording and touring pro.

The Dane's Design
Central to Oskar's design is a smooth plastic comb that doesn't swell like traditional wood combs. Aside from being easier to keep clean, the plastic comb is impervious to the swelling of conventional harmonica wood combs that can tear up the player's lips. By making affordable replacement reed plates available, Oskar's harps can be easily refurbished. You no longer need to toss out a harmonica because a reed or two has gone south. Replacement reed plates are available for every model in the Lee Oskar harmonica lineup and installation is easy since they mount to the comb with just three self-tapping screws. The reed plates have wide chambers and narrow dividers for faster, easier playing. A precision-molded, recessed bed holds the reed plate securely to prevent air leakage and project a bigger sound. The corrosion-proof, stainless steel cover plates are also engineered for excellent projection and tone. (Replacement cover plates are also available.) Lee Oskar harmonicas are tuned to 441-plus hertz for a brighter sound. With equal tuning by octaves, Lee Oskar harps have excellent intonation for blowing highly articulate, single-note leads.

More Keys and Modes
Lee's innovation didn't stop with a better-designed harp. Recognizing the need for harmonicas tuned in other than the major and natural minor diatonic scales, he introduced the Melody Maker and Harmonic Minor series that make it easier to play melodies difficult if not impossible to play with a standard diatonic harmonica. Another indication of Oskar's hard-won knowledge as a touring pro: Each harp is clearly marked in bright white on both ends with its first- and second-position (straight and cross-harp) keys. Each harmonica box is color-coded according to its series and also displays its key prominently. If you've ever struggled to find the right harp on a darkened stage, you will appreciate this simple yet essential touch.

About Lee Oskar
Even if you don't recognize Lee Oskar by name, if you've listened to pop radio much, you've probably heard his highly personal mouth harp style on War hits like "The Cisco Kid," "Low Rider," and "Why Can't We Be Friends." Oskar's staccato phrasing and uncanny tone—put to great use blowing horn-like unison riffs with saxman Charles Miller—gave War's funky stew of Latino, Caribbean, African, jazz, rock, and R&B elements a distinctive lead voice. This was especially true after the departure of vocalist Eric Burdon. The former Animals singer had been a focal point for War on early hits like "Spill The Wine." The band's eclectic and fluent mix of genres proved a rich fount leading to a string of '70s and '80s hits, usually with Oskar's distinctive harp riffs providing the signature sound.

Great value, great price, fast shipping.
Ive been blowing harp for 40 years. Formerly a Hohner player, Lee Oskar harps are my favorite since Hohners quality went south in the mid 80s. They play like the original Spec 20s did when they first came out in the 70s (I still have some of those orig 70s Spec 20s in flat keys that I haven't use much). Of all the harps I've used Hohner (Marine Band, Blues Harp, MM, Spec 20), Huang, Suzuki, Lee Oskar - the Lee Oskars have proven to be consistent and high quality. The standard to which I compare all harps is an old - almost 40 years - Hohner Blues Harp, (F), that I soak in water (trimmed the comb with an X-acto knife) and OMG, it plays SO sweet. If a harp plays with the feel I get from a nice tight water-soaked old wooden combed Hohner, it suits me! Lee Oskar harps consistently do that. The non-rusting SS covers and replaceable reed plates are a real innovation. The difference in responsiveness between a Lee and the last Spec 20 I bought in the mid 80's (my last Hohner ever) is like the difference between a Maserati and a dump truck. Every one of the LO harps played perfectly first time out. The case is great, It carries 22 diatonics, 1-12 hole Marine Band and a Chromonica (it's so old I only paid $16.95 for it at a music store on Fillmore St in San Francisco in 73), Madcat mic, two cords and my harp pedalboard with a delay and 7 band EQ. And spare batteries. Now if I could just ftt my hot-rodded Epiphone Valve Jr. in it...
Top quality all the way around.
Most bang for the buck! I needed to buy some new LO so, at this price, The case was basically free. An offer I couldn't refuse! BTW, the price of harps always goes up when there's a war on because of the amount of brass the military uses drives the cost of manufacturing up. I first noticed that after the first Gulf war.

The sound of a Lee Oscar is amazing. I've played them for years and they do last long. But I decided it was time to restock so I purchased this case of five harps. When they arrived I was impressed with the case, sturdy and well made with plenty of room for harps, Green Bullet and even a direct box. My disappointment was with the harps. They didn't seem to have the punch and crunch as my other Lees. They're made by Tombco from Japan and I blew a reed right away. The case is the only thing that warrants a Quality rating of 5.0. The Features gets a 5.0 because it was a great case with harps. The Value and Overall rating gets a 0.5 because I'll have to spend more cash to fill the case with real Lees. I do suggest getting this set just for the price, but replace the Tombcos with real LeeO's. I'll continue to purchase and play Lee Oscar harps and this is still a good deal but I can't wail on stage knowing that the longevity of the harps is questionable.

Five LO Harps AND a case? A Great Deal and a Great Price!!

Lee Oskar Harmonica 5-Pack with Case

      By Joe Searles

      from Virginia

Comments about Lee Oskar Harmonica 5-Pack with Case:

This was a great buy. I paid for the harmonica's only, the case was free. They are easy to play and sound great. I'm a novice and haven't learned the art of bending, yet, but without trying very hard, I have bent some notes accidently, so I'm sure, once I learn the bending technique, they will be easy to bend. Another great feature of these harmonica's, is the availability of purchasing new reed plates, that will allow me to fix my harmonica's, instead of replacing them. Shipping time from MusiciansFriend was normal, not exceptional.

      Nearly Total Bust

      By NoMOBadHarps

      from Missouri

Comments about Lee Oskar Harmonica 5-Pack with Case:

How ironic is it that the best thing in this package deal is the cheaply made case (which I actually sound kind of nice)? 4 of the harmonicas were blown after the VERY FIRST GIG! And no, I don't overblow, I've had Golden Melodies for years and they actually sound better after years of use than these Lee's did brand new. Some of the keys remained tight and sounded good, but overall, if all of the harps aren't perfect then this can hardly be a worthwhile package. And the worst part of course--you can't get your money back! I will be sticking to Hohners from here on out.

      Happy with the LO's

      By philladakilla

      from San Luis Obispo, CA

Comments about Lee Oskar Harmonica 5-Pack with Case:

I started playing harmonica on a Hohner Marine Band harmonica over a year ago and decided to get a set of Lee Oskars and a holder so I could jam on guitar and harp at the same time. I was immediately impressed with the package I received. The case is great for holding the harps, holder, chords, picks, and plenty of other neat things. The sound was pristine and more professional compared to the Hohner and the plastic comb is more durable and easier to clean. Some of the low end reeds need a little warming up to get going but I am very happy with the performance. I just wish the F harp was an octave lower. Also, I haven't played enough harps to give it a perfect rating, but nonetheless I am very satisfied.

      Great Set!

Comments about Lee Oskar Harmonica 5-Pack with Case:

I got this set for my birthday this past week, and I can honestly say that I am impressed! I am not a professional by any means (I am a guitarist by trade), but these are really easy to play. I can't wait to record with them. The case is really nice too. It has TONS of room, and it looks rather empty with just 5 harps in it. I'll have to put my cheaper harps in there too just for looks. Also, all Lee Oskar's are made by Tombo, not just this set. These are REAL Oskars.

      Blazing blues harps

      By rmngretsch14

      from Northwood, NH

Comments about Lee Oskar Harmonica 5-Pack with Case:

When I started playing harmonica it was on a Hohner Blues Harp. I thought that was a good harp but thought, based on the sound that was coming out, that I sucked. No matter what I did I couldn't get anything but folk. Then I my father gave me these harmonicas. Turns out I wasn't bad at all, the sound and feel these throw out is mindblowing. I'll admit I was a bit hesistant will the plastic combs( plastic always seems cheap to me) but the fact is that the plastic is more durable, and requires less maintainence. Where the wood comb would build up with gunk or swell and kill my sound I havent had to clean these out yet, a credit to the construction. My only recommendation is that you get an E too. These harmonicas are great for anyone and I'll be using them for years to come.

      Great Harps, Nice Case!

      By JrWellsFan

      from Citrus Heights, CA

Comments about Lee Oskar Harmonica 5-Pack with Case:

I played a few different styles of Hohner harps years ago. I bought one Lee Oskar to try it, and put them all on the shelf. The main difference between Lee Oskar's and the Hohner's that I was using (mostly special 20, marine band, big river, and blues) was the tone. Flat out, they just sound better to me. I picked up the 5 with the case after my collection did a disappearing act along with my car, and I couldn't be happier... about the harps and case, I mean. I wasn't expecting much from the case, but it is really quite nice. Much fatter than my old Hohner hardshell, but it holds 3x as much equipment. I just received it, so I'm not sure yet on durability, but it seems pretty sturdy. The tag on it says it is from Kases III. Couldn't find them on any google search. I only gave the product 3.5 on Value cuz you're really only saving on the case. If you need the case and the harps, or are a beginner who's looking for a good start, I do think this product is definitely worth it.
