OVERVIEW

Whether you are a traditionalist or experimentalist, this instrument will impress you with its tone and versatility.

This Celtic 6-String Banjo has the standard 25-1/2" scale of a guitar, with the traditional resonator of a banjo. While its design is geared towards modern Celtic jams, the attack produced by the transparent head will whisk you back to pickin' on grandpa's porch.

For the experimentalists, use a standard EADGBE tuning for a uniquely accented guitar tone, or open tuning for punctuated resonant drones.

A beautiful banjo with high quality workmanship (and yes it is a banjo despite what all the 4 and 5 stingers call it), but it needed adjustment. I tuned it up (to guitar tuning) and played it - it sounded great but action was way too high. The problem was a too-high bridge. It was 11/16" high, and needed to be 1/2". After finding a 1/2" 5 string bridge and grinding down then cutting 6 notches, it played much better (you will need to tighten the drum head too). The nut needs to come down 3/32" also, but I will do that next. I also installed strap pegs (Stew-Mac). So now the action is fantastic and plays like a Deering at a fraction of the price. Now I am happy, a GREAT value.

This is a beautiful banjo with a great tone and easy to play for a guitarist wanting to add this as a second instrument to his show. To the audience it appears that you are an actual banjo picker if you play it right. To the musician in the audience he knows you are a guitarist playing a banjitar. The downside to this banjitar is the amount of time required to set this up and get it to the playable state. I had a Tech set this up and it was difficult to say the least. I have since been back twice for adjustments. This will require a lot of fine tuning and adjustments and what ever you do don,t leave it in the heat. I wish now I had spent the extra money to upgrade to a better quality banjitar with a built in pick-up.

Comments about Luna Guitars Celtic 6-String Banjo:

I have been interested in incorporating the banjo sound into my songwriting but didn't want to actually learn to play one. I was very impressed after watching videos of a 6 string banjo. I was hooked and that the price of my Luna Celtic was very reasonable. I fell in love with it the day I bought it and I would highly recommend it to any guitar player wanting to add to his/her versatility.I did not have to set mine up since I bought it from a music store so I can't comment on that at this time.

Very good sound and nice lite weight makes it easy to hold and play. More mellow tone than a 5 string.

Comments about Luna Guitars Celtic 6-String Banjo:

This banjo is absolutely worth it. Amazing sound, as well as great versatility with either standard E tuning or an open G tuning like your five string banjos along with the ability to choose your strings, acoustic guitar strings, which of course vary from phos/bronze to a nickel wound. If you play guitar and would like to make the transition possibly a bit smoother and have an extra string for more musical potential go with a 6 string.Plus, the only universal 6 string banjo case #712864 fits it great.

Comments about Luna Guitars Celtic 6-String Banjo:

As promised...great right out of the box. good looking instrument! I bought this to play around the house. I have been a full time musician for 30-years, and wanted to get the banjo sound without learning a new instrument. set up was easy, however the string quality and sound were lacking. I take my guitars in twice a year for setup so I ended up taking it along with my Gibson J-200 to the luthier to see what they could do to improve overall sound quality. Also this 6 string does not come with a case. so new strings and a case are essential. I am sure it will come back from the shop sounding great. I am pleased with the purchase and it is a fun instrument to play

Comments about Luna Guitars Celtic 6-String Banjo:

I bought this for my wife for Xmas, she plays guitar and we had got a 5 string Banjo a few years ago that she struggled to pick up. First off this is a beautiful looking instrument with the Celtic symbols. Set up out of the box was straightforward, the only issue was with the bridge sliding slightly out of alignment with the neck when the strings were tightened. I suspect that the tailpiece is slightly out of alignment, but the instrument is playable and we experienced no issue with action as some others seem to have. The only change I would make is to put a set of Elixir strings on for a smoother playing experience. Other than that my wife is very happy and has been picking away since Xmas.

Comments about Luna Guitars Celtic 6-String Banjo:

For such an inexpensive instrument, this is an incredibly fun little banjo to play. I had read other reviews saying it was stiff, that the strings set too high off the neck, but I have not found that. Once I had the bridge set where it belonged and tuned it up, I found it to be such a happy instrument.
I have yet to use it on stage but would have no problem bringing it out for a song or two.....maybe for a rousing rendition of Whiskey In the Jar....who knows?

Comments about Luna Guitars Celtic 6-String Banjo:

I love Luna products and this one is exceeded my expectations. I had read the reviews regarding the bridge height and had purchased a 6 string banjo 1/2" bridge but ended up using the one that came with it. I did not think the action was too high with the taller bridge. The set up was easy and I giggle everytime I play this thing. The sound is awesome, the looks are amazing. Several of my friends have played it and fell in love. If you need a banjo for a few songs but do not want to learn how to play a new instrument or want to try and remember another set of chords, this one is for you!
