OVERVIEW

Distinctive style and sound packed into this compact uke.

Luna's ukulele basses are fun to play - for portable performance or practice anywhere. They are 21" short scale instruments featuring flatwound strings that are tuned to E-A-D-G like a traditional bass guitar - but one octave up.

Luna offers their popular High Tide and Tattoo designs with the addition of a stunning gloss black model with maple rosette and binding, with sharks teeth fret markers. All basses come equipped with Luna preamps although, unlike bass ukes with nylon strings, our flatwound strings offer a robust acoustic sound even without amplification.

Whether you are a full-size bass player looking to practice on your lunch hour or a ukulele player looking for a new challenge in the territory of lower pitches and a bass-like approach Luna's distinctive styling, combined with affordable prices, make these basses an irresistible addition to your collection.

Comments about Luna Guitars Tattoo Ukulele Acoustic-Electric Bass:

I wasn't sure what to expect from this Luna Bass Ukulele, but it's actually higher quality than I expected for the price. The Fretboard is radiused, something I wondered about that wasn't mentioned in the specs. The satin finish is very even and applied well. The tuners are good quality. I bought the Spruce top model, it is a laminated top, but at the price, that's acceptable.

The electronics are okay, with adjustments for Volume, Presence, and Bass/Treble, and all three do function adequately. No onboard tuner, which would have been nice, but that's nit-picking, really.

The volume is pretty low when played acoustically, but that's pretty much just "the way it is" with any bass instrument with a "uke-size" sound box, which is baritone sized. I'd definitely recommend buying an amp along with it for anything beyond sitting on the couch entertaining yourself, even if you want to play along with other unamplified ukuleles.

The action seems a little high to me, but fingering the frets wasn't as difficult as I thought it might be, being I'm used to playing the mostly nylon strings on my conventional ukuleles. I didn't have any issues with fret buzz at all, and it looks like I should be able to lower the action a bit if I want later on without that becoming an issue.

It is a little heavy for a uke, which makes sense, since the neck has to be pretty substantial to support the flat wound steel strings. I do feel like Luna should have included strap buttons on this uke, even at this price point. I would suggest getting a strap too, when you order this uke, even though I don't use a strap when playing my conventional ukes.

The gig bag that came with mine was a nice surprise too. It's actually a decent gig bag. Decent padding, and a "suitcase style" carry handle, and in addition it has two backpack type straps to carry on your back if you so choose.

Comments about Luna Guitars Tattoo Ukulele Acoustic-Electric Bass:

Love playing the bass, but it can tend to get heavy after a long time playing. This has the rich tones of a full size bass but isn't heavy or large.
