OVERVIEW

Crafted by Martin to have the beautiful look of koa wood.

The Martin OXK Uke Ukulele is fashioned from HPL (high pressure wood laminate) in a koa-like finish with a matching 1-piece top. The Martin OXK Uke is crafted with Sitka spruce bracing, mahogany end-blocks, cedar ribbons, a morado fingerboard and bridge, bone nut and saddle, Grover tuning machines and a dovetail joint similar to that used in traditional Martin ukulele construction. With its strong Stratabond neck and durable HPL body, the Martin OXK Uke is perfect for moonlight ukulele serenades on the beach. Martin accompanies the OXK Uke with a handy carrying bag too.

Comments about Martin 0XKUKE Soprano Ukulele:

I have many ukuleles, this without a doubt is a great soprano uke. Fit and finish is excellent, no sharp edges on the frets. This is the least expensive ukulele Martin makes it comes from there factory in Mexico. It plays great and has wonderful tone for an all laminated instrument. I really like the Martin 600 fluorocarbon strings that came on this uke, I thought I would have to replace the strings but it really sounds good with these strings, so good in fact I am thinking about using theses strings on some of my other ukes. The action and intonation was good right out of the box , kudos to whoever did the setup at the factory in Mexico! Nice padded gig bag too. The friction tuners are the only thing I need to get use to, you will, need a Phillips head screw driver to lock the tuners in place once you get it tuned, but this is a minor thing.

Comments about Martin 0XKUKE Soprano Ukulele:

This was my first ukulele and I was looking for a good entry-level instrument with a composite (not solid wood) body for ease of maintenance as I live in a dry climate and do not have a humidor. This Martin exceeded my expectations and I am very pleased. Compared to other ukuleles in this price range from China or other Asian countries, this made-in-Mexico Martin is better-built, has a superior action (lower strings) and a smoother fretboard (no sharp edges). It stays in tune (after the strings are broken in) and the sound is what a reasonable person would expect from a composite body. Don't expect the tone warmth of mahogony or koa and you won't be disappointed. If you're looking for a good entry-level uke, or a good practice/travel uke, this Martin is the way to go.

Comments about Martin 0XKUKE Soprano Ukulele:

I bought a Martin OXK UKE in November, 2012. I Have as of the time of this review spent more time playing with it than I have playing with my children. I can not put this thing down.

It's the first Uke I have owned that cost any substantial amount of money. It was worth every penny.

Great feel. Slightly heavy for the size, but this gives it a solid feel that better represents a quality instrument. Very nice texture on the laminate neck. No slippy feel. This is especially important considering the slight neck-heaviness.

The E-String was rattling when I got it. Figured out where it came from. It was clearly a setup issue. Easily fixed. The Stock martin strings were amazing for stock nylons. After about a week i replaced them with some Aquila Nylgut strings. This Immediately filled out the slight tinny sound the original strings had.

Incredibly warm full sound for a soprano ukulele. Alarmingly rich and loud when you need it to be.

It came with an awesome gig bag. AND. The heavenly "New Martin" smell. :).

I highly recommend this to anyone who wants to mve up from a toy to a real instrument, and anyone who wants to start their ukulele career the right way.

I love this thing and it goes EVERYWHERE with me. The laminate materials construction provide it with a lot of resistance to temperature and humidity changes.

In Closing: I love this thing, and with the exception of the rattle in the nut, and the stock strings there were no complaints. After making those changes, I think you would be hard pressed to find a better Ukulele in it's price range, and almost certainly wouldn't be guaranteed to find better without spending twice what this one cost.
