Comments about Martin C1K Concert Ukulele:

I bought this uke as a birthday present for my wife. It is a great value for the money. Wonderful tone and fit and finish was flawless. The setup was good right out of the box. It's a solid koa concert with geared tuners. This was made at the Martin factory in Mexico and the quality is top notch if this was made in Hawaii or on the mainland of the US it would be so much more. It has a satin finish which I believe allows the wood to really sing out. It came with Martin strings. Not too many people ever seem to talk about Martin ukulele strings, but for my money they are very good strings and have used them on many of my other ukuleles, naturally when you talk strings it's a personal preference but give them a try they really are good strings and not that expensive. The uke came with a nice Martin gig bag, but for this instrument I wanted something better so I bought a Mono concert ukulele case. Well worth the money. And best of all my wife loves it!

Comments about Martin C1K Concert Ukulele:

I own Cordoba and Luna ukuleles, but this is in another league. The Martin strings are the best I've heard and the instrument itself is a real work of art. Not sure why they didn't do a high gloss finish like the Hawaiian makers, but it still looks amazing. The sound is wonderful and playing it just "feels" right. (rather subjective I know.) The price was good and Musician's Friend was easy to work with. I received this while they were still back ordered... not sure how, but thanks. In a couple of years I'll update this review and see how the Martin C1K lasts over time. New cars are always nice, but let's see how it ages. I'm betting it will be just like new.

Comments about Martin C1K Concert Ukulele:

The playability of the neck feels like a classic old martin uke and isn't as clunky as some of the similarly priced competitors. (However, that might be a turn off if one's fingers aren't as dexterous or are bear paws)
No fancy embellishments or inlays, just a pure clean look with a great feel and tone. The wood smells and looks beautiful.

Comments about Martin C1K Concert Ukulele:

My first uke. I wanted a quality, solid-wood instrument which would be playable and which wouldn't need rapid replacement with something better as my skills improve. This hits that sweet spot between too cheap (in the broadest sense) and too expensive for a serious beginner. It's a plain-looking instrument with a rich tone and good sustain.
