This instrument is great! Ive been playing guitar and uke for about 4 years and this is one of the more fun instruments I've picked up. It sounds, plays, and looks awsome and is surprisingly loud for its size. It's so loud it can keep up with my friend's acoustic guitar. The tone of the strumstick is kind of unique, it sounds like a cross between a banjo and a mandolin in my opinion and is very satisfying to listen to. Also the playability is great it sounds good all the way up the fretboard, no buzzing frets. I use alot of flatpicking and fingerpicking on this thing and I've learned most of the chords for it, which I highly recomend doing. The entire instrument is made from solid, high quality wood and is well put together and solid. I would recomend this instrument to anyone, a beginner or an experinced musician. Its alot of fun and easy to play.

Its pretty good, i got it for cheap from a freind brand new. it was really addicting when i first got it. the only flaws are that it is really fragile, and that it doesnt have chords, which makes it a little boring after a while.

Perfect beginners' instrument.

Comments about McNally G-29 Standard Strumstick:

This is so fun, and so easy to play. My brother who thought he'd never learn an instrument is doing fantastic on this.I have just a couple complaints:No problems yet, but it seems cheaply constructed.Designed to "sound good", it has very limited chord and scale options, designed specifically to play only major scales. Not really the best instrument for an experienced musician unless you're looking for something fun and unique, but a great buy for beginners.

sounding good for a beginner!!

Comments about McNally G-29 Standard Strumstick:

This is the best instrument for beginners! I have tried over the years to learn to play....something....anything. Five years ago i found this. Its so easy to hold and play for my small hands. You don't have to play all 3 strings to sound good either, just hold one and strum all 3. I feel confident when i play this, I don't have to compare my self to my talented brother anymore, who practically picked up the guitar and didn't have to learn. Easy to play songs in the book are great to have too. This isn't just for kids either. I'm 25 and love picking it up every now and then, it brings me a smile!

Fantastic

By Montana

Comments about McNally G-29 Standard Strumstick:

I got my first McNally back in the mid to late 80's. My wife surprised me with it for Christmas and had to pry it from be to get me to eat our mid-day meal. I later contacted McNally and about a 4 string chromatic instument and he was just completing a prototype model. (I'm a tenor guitar finatic) I ordered one and though it is a longer neck, I've had a ball with it as well. Easy to carry backpacking and it always draws an interested audience. I then got his Backpacker 6 string guitar before he sold the plans to Martin. He is a creative and excellant designer. Buy one and start having fun.

Comments about McNally G-29 Standard Strumstick:

The strumstick is a blast, just to jam around on and it's also fun to have a friend come over and play the miracas, tambourine, bongos, etc... It sounds great and I have trouble putting it down to play my other instruments.

3 years later, still hooked

By Smitty-ivE3O

Comments about McNally G-29 Standard Strumstick:

I've had a Strumstick for well over three years now and still play it often. Other guitars have come and gone, but the Strumstick remains a permanent fixture at my house. I love it because it has such a unique sound and delivers a resoundingly punchy, loud voice for it's size. Younger kids love it because it is small and very hard to mess up on.Stays in tune, USA handmade quality, and a unique addition to any guitarist's collection.

Still going strong

By Rojo y Negro

Comments about McNally G-29 Standard Strumstick:

I received this as a gift for my birthday. I had no previous musical experience and I have 5 thumbs on each hand. No problem, I was getting tunes after 2 evenings of just sitting around and strumming while watching TV.It encouraged me to go out and buy a guitar, which I am now learning. I play the strumstick when I just feel like relaxing and also it helps me get the rhythm to a tune before I play it on the guitar. It also fits in a suitcase and the hold of my kayak. It is a wonderful introduction to simple music for someone who spends his day in the high-tech world.

Total Novice but you should hear me

By Anonymous

Comments about McNally G-29 Standard Strumstick:

OK total novice but love music - I have attempted to play in my normal fashion the following: Recorder, Penny Whistle, Bass, Guitar, Piano - But the strum stick is so much better because I have limited stamina and tire of sounding so bad I even hate it let alone my family. But with the strumstick my wife will let me play it for 20-30 minutes before she says thats enough - For those of you not in my house I get scolded in a few seconds on the others. My son even plays it sometimes and he is 7
