The Michael Kelly Legacy Dragonfly Acoustic-Electric Mandolin is a top-of-the-line Michael Kelly mandolin. Comments about Michael Kelly Legacy Dragonfly Acoustic-Electric Mandolin:

Well, folks, this is a beautiful instrument. Legacy Dragonfly electric/acoustic with the Antique Violin finish. Unfortunately I am not sure that it sounds five hundred better than my current no-name mandolin. I fell in love with this model over the internet because nobody in Sacramento carries Michael Kelly mandolins. I have a friend with one--a different M.K. Model--that sounds wonderful. Richer and louder. It's an Elegante, I think. Since I'm mainly a guitar player I may return this beautiful creature. Cheapskate, perhaps? Wish a local store had these so I could pick and choose; we all know that each instrument in a production run sounds different. If I found one closer to my friends' tone it would be a keeper. And trying and buying local would save me the cost of shipping back. Or of restocking fees, if any.

Comments about Michael Kelly Legacy Dragonfly Acoustic-Electric Mandolin:

Asked specifically for a case that fit the instrument. Was assured by MF that the case fit. Asked specifically that the instrument be shipped in the case. Was assured by MF that it would be shipped in the case. You guessed it... instrument and case were shipped separately, and the instrument does not fit in the case.

Comments about Michael Kelly Legacy Dragonfly Acoustic-Electric Mandolin:

Instrument is as advertised, not a $2000 instrument so doesn't sound like one, but does sound and play just fine once set up. Expect to change strings, but I do that on every instrument I buy so no big deal. On mine the nut was too high so first couple frets were too high when played - fixed at set up so all good now. I'm a first timer with mandolin but have played guitar for almost 20 years and I'm having loads of fun for the money. A buddy owns an expensive Martin and he was impressed with it overall. Biggest issue is that the G string seems less lively than the others.

Comments about Michael Kelly Legacy Dragonfly Acoustic-Electric Mandolin:

Michael Kelly mandolins have superior tone, when I have compared them with similar models. I wanted an acoustic-electric mandolin, so this was my choice. This is a beautiful instrument with all wood construction and satin finish which results in excellent tone. Fit and finish were excellent. The dragonfly inlay on the fingerboard gives it a custom look. This has a Fishman pickup with on board tuner, which is very rare with mandolins. My only complaint is the then finish is not the "antique, violin satin" finish as advertised, but the "amberburst", which is a brighter, orange. Nevertheless, I am satisfied customer.

Comments about Michael Kelly Legacy Dragonfly Acoustic-Electric Mandolin:

Let me start by saying that after a week i do enjoy my new MK dragonfly.
            Pros
Absolutely beautiful from far away. truely. i have it hanging on my wall and it looks like a work of art.
unplugged sound is great, good volume, good tones, crisp and clear.
plugged sound is fair, but can be adjusted for better tone. i found it was a little thin and uneven.
playability is great, i put a set of elixars on it right away, the strings that come with it are poor.
            seems to be well built
            good bridge

            cons
the attention to detail is very poor. multiple scuffs, trim work and paint is uneven and noticibly shabby. it looks handmade by a poor crafastman. from about a foot away, you would never notice, but up close it is a little displeasing.
plugged in, i wanted a warmer tone. it was a little too bright and uneven, and left a little to be desired in the way of communicating that warmth that you get unplugged.

            all in all
i would recommend it only if you can play it first and you are ok with the subpar detail work. I will get it professionally set up by a luthier, which i recommend on any Mandolin. I am upgrading form a cheaper ibanez and it suites me fine. and man is a pretty :)
