Michael Kelly

A top-of-the-line mandolin with every upgrade available in appearance and tone.

As with all MK mandolins, it features a solid hand carved spruce top. On the Eleganté however, craftsman spend more time carefully carving and graduating the top for the best possible sound. The back and sides are all solid flame maple and the fingerboard is hand selected premium ebony. With this no-compromises instrument you will also get the upgraded solid tailpiece. It has more mass for increased tone and a design that eliminates rattles and makes string changes faster and easier than ever before. The Eleganté mandolin is topped off perfectly with stunning flame maple binding. This exotic wood accent allows the Eleganté to stand out from the crowd in looks as well as with its big booming tone.

Michael Kelly is proud to offer the widest variety of mandolins available. Since they own their own factory, every Michael Kelly mandolin is built with care to produce the best tone possible. All Michael Kelly mandolins, from the least expensive to the most, feature solid wood construction. With additional features like Grover® tuners, radiused fretboards, scooped fretboard extensions and dovetail neck joints, Michael Kelly mandolins are truly "Built on Sound".

Comments about Michael Kelly Legacy Elegante F-Style Mandolin:

I have to say that anyone expecting a playable mandolin out of the box is going to be disappointed with this mandolin. The setup on this mandolin from the factory is as poor as any other in it's price range and above. If one does one's homework one will learn that only mandolins costing $4k and up are likely to arrive setup properly and even then there is no guarantee. The craftsmanship and the wood of this mandolin are excellent. The finish and setup are just as bad as many others. If you want a good start on a great mandolin, this is a one that will deliver. You will have to put some high quality strings on it, adjust the truss rod, level the frets, adjust the action, play it for a while and then you will have one sweet mandolin. If you want that handed to you on a silver platter, save up a lot of money because it takes a lot of cash to get a mandolin like that. Of course if you want bling on your mandolin, this is not the mandolin to buy. But, the luthiers who make this unit put in the hours on the woodworking part. The setup department is obviously out to lunch or something. But, setup is a personal thing anyway. If you can't do the setup yourself, then expect to pay a luthier who knows mandolins to get this mandolin right. Even with adding that cost to the purchase price of this mandolin you will still be way ahead in tone and overall cost compared to a $4k model

                    Great Sound

Comments about Michael Kelly Legacy Elegante F-Style Mandolin:

I bought this off line and when it came in I was actually a little disappointed. While it was a beautiful mandolin, the sound just wasn't great. But... after only one week of playing around 30 min. a day the sound improved drastically! Now, after 4 months I find it hard to believe how good this mando sounds. I would recommend this to anyone. I met up at a jam a few weeks ago with a guy who had a Morgan Monroe, their was no comparison, the MK elegante was louder, clearer, and just down right sounded better! I believe it sounds better than most lower end Gibsons. In short, you will have to spend a lot more money to get a better mandolin.

Comments about Michael Kelly Legacy Elegante F-Style Mandolin:

This guy at my church owns this thing, and he was talking about how he didn't like it and wanted to return it but never did. Originally I purchased a Rogue mandolin, and compared to that piece of junk, this thing sounded phenomenal! I did not see one flaw, it was easy to pick up and play, stayed in tune. The only drawback is that it's a little heavy, but if you man up, it's just about flawless. Luckily I did not have to purchase this instrument for myself, because it's pretty high up there for my taste, but if you have the money and are serious about getting into the mandolin, you cannot go wrong with this product!

                    Beautiful Mandolin

Comments about Michael Kelly Legacy Elegante F-Style Mandolin:

I bought the Michael Kelly Legacy Elegante sight unseen after researching their website. I am very impressed with the sound, quality and beauty of it. It plays like butter compared to other quality mandolins. Even though I am an intermediate player, this mandolin will be able to take me as far as I want to go and I look forward to many years of playing it. I get many compliments on it and it is always fun to hear advanced players play it and make it sing.
