Comments about Michael Kelly MKLFSTB Legacy Festival Mandolin:

I received the second of these as I sent the first one back due to bad finish on the lower bout front. After many phone calls and emails a replacement arrived. I've spend hours sanding the bridge down in the vain hope of improving the action. However the warp in the neck seems to compensate for my work. The neck relief is adjusted as tightly as I'm comfortable making it yet there is still a dip at the 5th to 12th frets. Now I have string buzz above the 10th fret in addition to an action that seems to rise by the day. The buzz is easily fixed with the adjustment wheels of the bridge, but this adjustment will return the action to the place it was before I sanded approximately 4 mm off the bottom of the bridge. Intonation is perfect, so I know that the bridge placement is accurate. At this point I plan to return this one and buy a better mandolin. Though thanks to Michael Kelly, I may be able to hang up my shingle as a mandolin tech!

Comments about Michael Kelly MKLFSTB Legacy Festival Mandolin:

This instrument arrived after some confusion with a return of the first one due to finish problems. MF support went out of their way to overnight the new one to me and it's perfect! Be aware that mandolins are typically shipped with the strings untensioned and the bridge is not installed. If you're a novice, a quick search on the 'net will guide you through the minimal set up that will render this instrument a great player. Mine is tuned up, intonated and I can't put it down. I'm a long time guitar player and am enjoying the challenge of learning mandolin on this great bargain instrument.

Comments about Michael Kelly MKLFSTB Legacy Festival Mandolin:

The first one MF sent arrived in a timely manner. The finish on the top was defective so I returned it. The return process went smoothly and MF sent confirmation that they had received the return. A week and three phone calls later I still await a mandolin or any indication that a replacement has been shipped. MF personnel have been very cheerful and helpful in their inability to account for the delay.

Comments about Michael Kelly MKLFSTB Legacy Festival Mandolin:

I consider myself a beginning mando player, but an experienced musician of many years. I normally play guitar and sax the most, but decided to try the mando when Musician's Friend offered a great deal on the Rogue model. I played that for awhile until I wanted something with a little better tonality. I tried a pretty expensive Washburn and ended up sending it back. This Michael Kelly came a couple of days ago, and I have not been able to put it down! It sounds and looks great. I would caution that the finish is more of a reddish rather than tobacco sunburst. It is also more of a flat finish than glossy. Also, mine did not come with the string dampeners pictured, although at this point I don't think I need them. I am very happy with the instrument and believe it to be a tremendous value. It is probably the only mando I will ever need.
