This is my first uke. I have been playing guitar for over 10 years and just recently decided to give the uke a try. This uke is solidly built. I have had no problems keeping it in tune. The tuning pegs on the head are very solid. It has a vibrant sound and I would definately recommend it. I get no string buzz whatsoever. Difinately a great uke to start out with! I gave it 4 stars, not because I am not fully pleased with the uke, but because I have not played enough of them to know what a great uke is. However, I have played guitar for years, and know what to look for in a good instrument, and this instrument has those qualities.

I bought this ukulele at my local Guitar Center because like most inlanders, our ability to "test drive" ukuleles is limited to major factory brands. Guitar Center only carries a few varieties. I wanted a Tenor, but they only carried Sopranos and Concerts. I admitt i was swayed by how beutiful this ukulele is. Its got a great varnish (but I think it aided in deadening the sound...more on that later) and teh wood variations are beautiful. The onboard preamp is my prefered choice of Fishman, with a cool built-in tuner too. The uke sounds decent amped, teh problem is once I got it home it dawned on me it would rarely be amped, and otherwise just doesn't project. I have concidered trying to replace the strings with higher end strings like Aquila Nylgut as many people have suggested it can really change an otherwise poorly sounding instrument, but at this point (day 2) I am considering returning it. My reason is this - for the high price, I feel I should be getting more bang for my buck. I could get a premium hardwood uke for not much more and not need the preamp. On the plus side, this unit stays in tune VERY well, I will give it that. The sound is decent, its just not loud enough and does not sustain. I think a lot of the positive reviews are fom people who don't have experence with what a quality ukulele shouled really sound like for comparison - no offense, but if all anyone has experienced is state-side factory ukuleles at stores like Guitar Center and Musician's Friend, then this probably does sound better by comparison. But it is not worth the extra expenditure when the sound quality is in line with the comparable yet cheaper factory-made ukuleles. If you are going to spend this much, I recomend spending a bit more and getting a premium ukulele (youre almost at that price point anyway). The truth is, the solid wood really does make a difference, and I was lead to believe by the salesperson the wood was solid koa, but it is just laminate, which really defeats the purpose of even having it be koa wood other than the asthetic. The real irony is there is something about this instrument that is making me want to give it a chance, but I can't in clear conscience keep it knowing that my doubts about it have all been validated by similar reviews

Have played guitar for many years. Purchased this instrument as my first Uke. Bought on sale so it was a good buy. It is a beautiful looking instrument and it plays well. As opposed to some other reviews, I find that it stays in tune well. It just takes some patient play time to get it in tune the first time and to get the strings stretched. Playing runs up and down the neck I find the intonation to be good. Projection is fair. If uke was my main thing I would be more discriminating but this is an excellent beginning.

Mitchell and i just dont get along... this is the second instrument i have invested in by them that has disappointed me. Its hard to keep in tune and the laminated body steals away from the sound. I think this thing was put together with glue cuz i could smell it the sec i took a wiff at it. I mean i love this little thing for getting me through and its fine for a first timer who has no real intention of progressing. But for more experienced pple or even guitar players who wanna try something new dont go for this one. If u are used to quality sound from ur Taylor's and Martins this thing will just break ur heart.

          Mitchell uke

Comments about Mitchell MU100 Koa Concert Ukulele:

I bought this uke because it was beautiful. I did not realize the instrument was laminated When I bought it I thought it was solid Koa wood. Over all it seems well made but the uke was not set up properly and the intonation was off. And this instrument just does not have the volume you find in the better quality instruments though it it a nice tone, just hard to hear it. I think its due to the too thick laminated KOA wood.

I purchased this as my first uke. I was very disappointed in the quality. No matter how much I tuned it, it might be in tune at one out but completley out of tune half way up the fret board. I could find no balance for the whole instrument to be in tune. I'm hoping that its just a problem with the neck or bridge. Cause that would be a very overpriced instrument if not. I recommend spending a few extra bucks as I have just done.

I was tired of playing my "el cheapo" uke. Played the MU70 and was not impressed. BUT...the MU100 is a much better instrument. Nice tone, stays in tune, and looks beautiful. Sometimes I just stare at it...Can't believe the workmanship.

I got this last night, and let me tell you, it's pretty good. I've been finding tabs for things, and I found a lot of video game themes. It sounds really good with those. It's also good for ska.

This is my first and I think it was an awesome investment. It has a good sound and not extremely low in sound either. You can definitely hear the tones of the uke and play pretty comfortably. I just started and really can't wait to get home to just start learning more and play away. Awesome Uke, especially for the price. Totally recommended by me for beginners I suppose.
