I bought this about three years ago, while I was working at a summer camp. I had fooled around with my friend's Oscar Schmidt soprano ukulele, but I decided I needed my own, and I ended up with this. I've had this for three years now, and I can say this instrument has made me a musician. I've written countless songs on it, and I still love it to this day. Yes, you will have to tune it each time you play, especially if the weather or humidity has changed (all the instruments I have are like this, not sure what everyone is whining about). I definitely recommend changing out the black plastic strings that come with it for something higher quality. It's a great size, still comfortably small yet not quite as tiny as a soprano uke. It is extremely easy to play.

Judging from the comments there may be considerable variability among these instruments. Mine is very well made, looks nice, and the worst part about it is the strings. People complain about intonation but that is as much due to the strings as to the build. Change out the strings for nylgut and it will play like a much more expensive instrument. The laminated top limits what you can get out of it but it also greatly reduces sensitivity to climate and makes this a good travel instrument. Bottom line: Very nice for the price, but change the strings.

    Love it!

Comments about Oscar Schmidt OU2 Concert Ukulele:

I have owned the OS Uke for about 6 months now. Never falls out of tune, sounds great, I beat the heck out of my strings and they have held up perfect. I have been playing guitar for 20 years and never owned a uke before this one. Can't beat the price and the quality of this model. Looks great, sounds great, plays great, what else do you need?

Comments about Oscar Schmidt OU2 Concert Ukulele:

I picked up this ukulele during the black friday sales and at first was pretty disappointed. It sounded like a cheap toy. I decided to restring the uke and give it another chance, and found myself pleasantly suprised at the difference in sound quality. No longer did it seem like a childrens toy but an actual instrument, one that I would recommend. It's definitely one I'm going to keep as a backup!

        Good Price, Bad Uke

        By AdamKazilsky

        from Milwaukee, WI

Comments about Oscar Schmidt OU2 Concert Ukulele:

I've had this uke for over a year now. After upgrading to the Lanikai sm-ce, and just playing this one a ton, i've learned that it's not worth the money. mine came much darker, the bridge needed to be pressed down and glued, and just overall horrible sound and intonation. Better off spending a little more on a lanikai then going with this.

        Starter Uke

        By Mai Tai Mike

        from Kentucky

Comments about Oscar Schmidt OU2 Concert Ukulele:

The Oscar Schmidt OU2 Ukulele is a great starter uke for the money. I have owned mine for 2 years and my son has owned his just shy of that. It has some great features such as geared tuners, a rosewood fretboard, all the fret ends were smooth and the strings were decent. It stays in tune and it looks good overall. Intonation may not be perfect and the action just a tad high. But overall you will be very happy with this as your first uke.

Comments about Oscar Schmidt OU2 Concert Ukulele:

The bad: Nut placement is way off. Needed shimming. Black strings took a long time to settle in. Bridge cut strings. Tuners are more like those on a 9/16ths priced uke. The look much more solid than they are.

The good: Good volume. Fearless. Straight neck and solid bracing. Well finished fret wires. Nice looking.

I play this thing all the time and doubt I could do justice to a better uke. It's got that classic, cheap uke, not quite in tune no matter what you do, sound. And plenty of it.

Comments about Oscar Schmidt OU2 Concert Ukulele:

So I just recently bought this ukulele and there were several cons to it, the first being that the body of the ukulele looks nothing like the picture, the second being that it goes out of tune over night every night if you are looking for something to pick up every once in a while and use then this may be for you but overall i will probably get a better ukulele and do more homework before purchasing another one.

          Intonation: Fatal Flaw!

          By Mo' Jam's

Comments about Oscar Schmidt OU2 Concert Ukulele:

BEWARE! OSCAR SCHMIDT/WASHBURN UKULELES ARE GARBAGE!Nice name, nice look, nice hardware, but one fatal flaw: HORRIBLE INTONATION!If you only play in the first position or are buying a toy for your niece, it?s okay. But if you are a serious musician (is a Ukulele ever serious?) DON?T BUY ONE!Try this: play an open A chord, then play the same movable shape up the neck. The higher you go, the more the 1st and 4th strings deviate from the unison they are.

Comments about Oscar Schmidt OU2 Concert Ukulele:

I play in several uke groups and own a number of medium to high-end ukes, but I'm always looking for something in the budget price range that I can offer to newbies curious to try the instrument, loan to friends, take to parties, etc, this is perfect ! Well made, nicely set-up out of the box ( I could see signs of fretwork ), no buzz, rattles and decent action. It appears they took note of some criticisms about cheap strings and tuners, - this came with Aquila strings and smooth open geared tuners. Highly recommended, especially at a 20% off sale.

I have been more of a guitar player for many years, but for a few years have been playing ukulele. I haven't owned any high end ukuleles, but have used Lanikai and Kohala ukuleles until I got this one. This seems, so far, to be better. Hard to beat the price.

The OU2 is my first uke. I've had it for a year and it's great. After I replaced the strings, it sound really good. Great deal for the price. The strings are kinda complicated to put on there but you can figure it out. My only problem is that mine came with two little chips out of the corner of the headstock. Otherwise great little instrument, me and all my friends love it.

One of the tuners didn't work on the first one but the music store gave me a different one no questions asked. This is a perfect starter for someone with larger hands. It's easy to play and stays in tune after a couple of weeks like most ukes. My only minor complaint is having to file down the ends of all of the fret wires. I highly recommend the OU-2 to anyone.
