Comments about Riptide EUT-2N Tenor Acoustic-Electric Ukulele:
I've been playing for several years and lead two ukulele groups. While the spruce top of the the Riptide gave a somewhat bright sound, I RETURNED IT because the sound was thin. I found my Fluke to be much warmer and much louder than the Riptide. The main reason I'm interested in a new ukulele is that I sometime need amplification.
I did find the EUT-2N Riptide to be very cute, much more than I expected. Over all I though the finish was nice, but there was one fairly obvious indentation on one side of the sound board at the very end of the fret board. There were both vertical and horizontal marks on the sound board, from the corner of where the fret board attached to the top sound board. I don't know if this affected the ukulele's sound or not.
I have played the cheaper EUT-5N5 riptide, and while I felt it had a fuller and mellower sound than this EUT-2N, I was not impressed with the finish and I notice it had seveal places where glue was showing and one where it dripped. I assumed the fit and finish would be better with the more expensive version. That was a costly mistake as return shipping is very, very expensive.
One last thing: I was also intriqued with the side sound hole, but I honestly couldn't hear myself any better that I can on my current ukulele.
