Mahogany top, back, and sides for the traditional ukulele look and tonal characteristics but with the exclusive "Dual Port System."

The Boulder Creek EUT-5NS Tenor Acoustic-Electric Ukulele has the same features of the UT-5NS (our sku# H76289), but adds a built-in Chromatic tuner, pickup system, and battery powered preamp with Volume, Bass, and Treble controls. Great tone for the living room, recording studio, or the stage.

The exclusive "Dual Port System" projects the sound to both the audience and the player. Moving the front sound port away from the center of the soundboard helps to increase volume, tone, and sustain on all Boulder Creek ukuleles. Die cast tuning machines and perfect fret leveling make them stay in tune and play easier than ukes costing much more.

Comments about Riptide EUT-5NS Tenor Acoustic-Electric Ukulele:

I played one of these in a store and it was really nice and played in tune. I have now ordered two of them and returned them due to major intonation problems. They were barely usable in the first 3 frets and forget it up the neck. Also the action was fairly high. So I would not get one that you couldn't play first.

The Riptide EUT-5NS an amplified acoustic Tenor Ukulele

By Little Bear

from NW USA

Comments about Riptide EUT-5NS Tenor Acoustic-Electric Ukulele:

This is the first time I've rated a product online.

The Riptide EUT-5NS arrived in good condition, and even had batteries for the pre-amp, and a cable to plug it into my amp. I have no experience with amplified instruments, but when I plug in it seemed to work okay. There were separate treble and bass controls which allowed one to adjust the output to your liking.

In the end, I returned the instrument because:

1. Terrible buzz when being played whether amplified or acousticly. After a call to the manufacturer I did manage to fix this. The tuner pegs were not as tight as they should have been, and the washers were vibrating.

2. I didn't like the feel of the neck and frets. I'm not sure what it was, Part of it was the slightly larger frets spacing of the tenor and I probably would have gotten use to them. But, there was a hardness that was either strings being slightly high or higher tensions on the strings of a tenor or maybe just the feel of the materals being used.

3. I didn't like the looks of the finish. This was probably the biggest factor. It was satin and the appeared to be somewhat mottled and streaked. The finish or the glues used were showing on the sides fret board in several places.

I did think about returning it for another of the same model. I normally play a concert sized Fluke and love it. I don't really want an amplified Fluke, but I have found myself in a few places where I have needed one. I may stay with a concert sized ukulele.

Would I recommend ukulele to some, yes. I do like the way the sound projucted up from the hole on the top edge. In fact I am thinking about a slightly higher grade concert sized Riptide.
