This is an outstanding little lap steel, while maybe not as well-made (i.e., plastic string nut and fretboard, etc.) as the high-end guys, it can knock out some fine vibes with the best of them when properly set up. I have played professionally for many years on guitar and a few other instruments, and let me tell you this thing seriously rocks. I suspect it will hold up well, since all the controls and hardware seem sturdy enough and are of a good quality. I plan on gigging with this little Rogue soon, in a country-bluegrass band every week, so I can just imagine how well it will be received by the audience. I may end up buying a second one, possibly in black, to use in E9 tuning. Do yourself a favor and order one of these little gems before Rogue raises the price - - a totally fun instrument that will give you many years of enjoyment, and for chump change to boot!! GET ONE!!
I ordered the red metallic, which is quite nice-looking with the chrome pickguard and black fretboard. The fretboard is plastic with silver frets and roman numeral markers, which are painted on and chromed. These may become hard to see when they start to wear off later on, and I feel there could have been a brighter marking on the fretboard. The screws that hold it on are chrome and may distract when you're playing, but that's a minor thing which would only bother you if you're real picky. I may paint the heads black if they distract me in the bright stage lights later when I gig with it. The telescoping legs are great, and the inserts on the bottom are a bit tricky since they are at different angles, but I took a few minutes and cleaned and straightened the starter threads on all the legs (with a thread file) and greased the threads before initial installation and now they go in very nicely. They seem to be quite sturdy, and unless you beat the crap out of it while playing, they will work great for standing up and playing. It comes with a black nylon gig bag with a compartment for the legs, and it is quite nice. The pickup is a single coil and is dead quiet and works just fine, with plenty of volume. The volume and tone controls are also quiet and smooth as silk, and the bridge is a "stop" type, screwed on and mine came adjusted perfectly, and the intonation all the way up the neck is spot on. It even comes with a small Allen wrench for the set screws on the bridge pieces should you need to set intonation for different string gauges or whatever. The tuners were chromed and work very smoothy, and this unit stays in tune very well indeed. The sustain is also great, and it would be stellar if it had a brass nut instead of the plastic one included here. I did order a guitar chord with a right angle plug for the output jack, which is located on the top next to the tone control. A regular straight plug may get in your way, so this is an easy way out of that. Nothing is perfect, especially for this $$, and I am very impressed with the overall quality of this little bugger, and may order another one for an alternate tuning. This one is in C6 and is a hoot to play. I've played much more expensive models in years past, and take it from me, this Rogue is a strong contender for a basic lap steel.
Good design, electronics, pickup, and layout is fine. Basic lap steel made well. Maybe I got a good one, but I suspect that Rogue has tightened up their QC considerably of recent because this unit is impeccable. It will need a bit of basic set-up before playing, as does ANY musical instrument that you buy online, so expect a few minor hiccups. Overall, the quality and fit and finish are superb.
Like I said, it's a basic lap steel (i.e., 2X6 with a pickup and strings, plastic fretboard, tuners, and stop tailpiece) and it works fine. Don't expect this thing to sound like a $3000 Emmons Pedal Steel because it ain't that by a thousand miles - - but you can mock that early country "Hank Williams" sound and produce those wonderful Hawaiian melodies till the cows come home. It's easy to play and if you have trouble with this instrument, maybe you should go back to couch and watch reruns of old westerns and forget it. For the money, it's a no-brainer.

Great features, lots of cool extras, great tone, piece of junk guitar. And that's what you're supposed to be buying in this. The guitar. Don't buy.
The finish looked nice, though mine had some scrathces at the bottom of the pickguard, but I think that was just in shipping. The pickguard is chrome as said in the description, not white like in the picture, but it looks fine. The fret numbers are done in roman numerals, and they are silver, not gold like in the picture. The included gig bag and legs were very nice. A great extra thing included in the already cheap price.
This is where it falls short. The guitar played beautifully for about 2 weeks. I was running it through a small Fender Frontman 10G that was laying around. The stock strings were gauged for C6 tuning and it sounded beautiful. No complaints with the pickup or the sound. It was great. Then bad things started happening. I noticed that the middle leg was loose, so I got a screwdriver to tighten the brackets that hold the legs. One of them was stripped, which is why it seemed wobbly. Strike one. After about a week of playing, all the strings started buzzing and sounding dead, or in the case of the high e string, it sounded almost wobbly. This was especially bad at the 12th fret up. I had one of my very guitar knowleged friends adjust the bridge, and it played fine for a while. Strike two. Then it all started again. I decided to go ahead and replace the B and E strings. I replaced the B string first, and it went on and tuned up just fine, with no problems. Then, I replaced the E string. Everything went fine, and as I was tuning it up to E, the bridge just snapped. Normal tension, what the string was gauged for, just snapped. Strike three. Very disappointed in the quality of the build of this instrument. Luckily, I got the Gold Coverage, so I will be sending it in, and hoping for a replacement that is better than this one.
For what you get for the price (gig bag, legs, guitar), it's a very good value. Just be sure to buy the gold coverage so when it breaks you can get it replaced. If this guitar lasted longer, it would be an excellent value, but the fact that it broke after 2 weeks really shows you that you get what you pay for.

Comments about Rogue EA-3 Lap Steel Guitar with Stand and Gig Bag:

This is an excellent value, and a relatively high quality product. I've run it through modeling amps by Fender and Crate and the tones are fun and it's responsive, and can get loud. The tone knob didn't change the tone much, but not a problem for me.
Legs are tricky, be patient; once installed they're sturdy and highly adjustable. I must also mention the case; many nice features like pockets and holders that I wasn't expecting! Overall a great starter instrument; my first "Rogue" product-I'm impressed!

Comments about Rogue EA-3 Lap Steel Guitar with Stand and Gig Bag:

I was looking for a low priced lap steel to start with before I buy a pedal steel. I had played steel years ago and wanted a good sounding steel to relearn the steel. I play in a cowboy Church band so the C6 tuning works great for us - we do a lot of country and country swing type worship songs. I have been surprized at the tone and sustain that I can get from this steel - after all it's not a lot of money for it.
I remember now how much fun I had playing steel before

This lap steel was purchased by me to get started playing, so investing alot of money didn't seem practical. This is just what I needed! It is sleek and easy to set up. The sound is clear and seems to be sturdy enough to take a beating. I also purchased power cord and amp at a great price, so I now have no excuse to begin. I would recommend this instrument to anyone, it looks and sounds great!

Amazed at the value out of the box. Set up and playing within minutes. Tone is very nice, tuners and pots feel solid. Bought this for fun experimental tones. I see nothing wrong with it as a funtional instrument. There might be some details with material and set up I'm not aware of being that I'm novice on a lap guitar. I feel confident in saying you will not be disappointed.
