I am an experienced guitar player and bought this because the price was right and I wanted to learn to play the ukulele. I am totally satisfied. It is a very nice looking and sounding uke that I think is perfect for a beginner or as a uke to take camping or places where you wouldn't want to take an expensive instrument. Even came with a nice gig bag. It does have friction tuners and you need to tighten the friction screws so that it stays in tune. Also the strings it came with are cheap ones that stretch. For the first couple days I had to tune it often but after that it stays in tune very well. Definitely not a professional grade uke but I am having lots of fun with it.

This uke is useful not only for beginners, but also for a more accomplished musician who wants an instrument to cart about with him that he need not worry too much about damaging.
The uke-style tuners are a bit flaky. Tightening the screws helped considerably.
Generally poor finish. I have a Rogue mandolin and baritone uke in addition to the suprano, and the finish on the suprano is certainly the worst of the lot. There are rough spots, and chipped finish coat is several spots. However, the instrument is eminently playable and from a musical point of view, of fair quality
Despite the characteristics outlined above, because of its low price it represents excellent value.

Very disappointing purchase and poor quality starter instrument even for a low cost import.

By Gregory Raphael

from Chicago

Comments about Rogue Hawaiian Soprano Ukulele:

Again, very disappointed with this purchase. I never expect much with cheap import instruments, but this particular instrument was very sloppily produced. With modern overseas production facilities it isn't that difficult to make a half way decently finished guitar for around this price. It boggles my mind that even for this price there would be so many obvious and ugly blemishes on this small Ukelele.

Likewise, I didn't expect tuners that would hold tune for long. But I at least expected tuners that could be tuned in under a couple of minutes and would at least hold for a couple of minutes!

I am just disappointed that this instrument, the worst low cost import I have dealt with, happened to be a token last minute gift. Given the price, it isn't even worth paying shipping to return it. If my family member can actually get a few minutes of use out of it, without tuning frustrations, or seems to really like playing, I intend to purchased I higher quality instrument maybe next Christmas.
I have always been a happy Musicians Friend customer over the years. I can't blame them on my disappointing experience with this starter Ukulele that I purchased for a Chistmas gift for a family member who wanted to try out playing to Ukulele. I have played and owned just about 100 guitars and basses over the years and have some some experience modifying and repairing them.

Seemingly had all the features one could expect for a low cost starter instrument. The tuners, regardless of any adjustments, are absolutely the worst low cost tuners I have ever seen and worked with. I have worked with both high cost as well as cheap import instruments of all kinds and have never dealt with tuners that lost tune so quickly and were so difficult to tune!

Even for a really low cost started instrument, the fit and finish was an absolute slopjob. I have also owned Rogue branded instruments before and though I assume they are manufactured in various factories, I honestly have to say there must have been no quality control on the day when this piece was produced.
I have experience with higher cost instruments as well as the cheaper import guitars and basses available over the past decade. My earliest Rogue branded instrument had been purchased probably over a decade ago now. Surprisingly many of these cheaper instruments exceeded my expectations. By doing so, they unfortunately raised the bar of what I consider acceptable.

This was to be a Christmas gift for a family member who just wanted to get started. I was very disappointed when I received the instrument. The first thing I noticed was it's extremely sloppy build. There were numerous relatively large (for such a small instrument) light colored blemishes, chips, and glue slopped all around the neck and on the fretboard.

The tuners are unacceptable in quality. No amount of "tightening the screws" improved the ability of this instrument to keep in tune for much longer than one or two songs OR the ability of these tuners to actually tune! Tuning this instrument itself is an exercise in frustration and like shooting a moving target! I have dealt with all manner of cheap tuners and these have to be the worst.

I contacted support about these issues but ultimately, given the price, it didn't make any sense to even pay for return shipping. I would like to think I have realistic expectations of low cost cheap import instruments based on my experience. It is rather unfortunate that this is the worse I have come across. I've seen toys manufactured up to higher quality standards than this instrument!
With this particular instrumentt, you get what you pay for. Unfortunately, I have had the good fortune of owning some very nice Rogue branded instruments in the past as well as many lower cost import instruments that have very well exceeded my expectations with regards to quality and overall value. I was not expecting much but the tuning issues as well as very poor cosmetic condition of the instrument are unacceptable.

Amazing for the price

By mE1vcKNWO

Comments about Rogue Hawaiian Soprano Ukulele:

Like a lot of people, I bought this ukulele just to play around with a new instrument. I didn't expect much, and while I'm definitely no expert as far as knowing what a good ukulele should sound like, I was pleasantly surprised. Mine came the same week I ordered it, and it was very well packaged. Out of the box, some of the tuners were too loose to hold a tune, but it was as simple as tightening a screw to remedy this. It's tricky to tune, because it doesn't use worm gears like most guitars, so very small adjustments make a very big difference in pitch. Besides this one little issue, though, everything else on the ukulele seems amazing for the price. The frets are the slightest bit rough, but nothing I haven't run into on some much more expensive instruments. It's very easy to play, has a great feel, and it sounds much, much better than I expected (it makes a great percussive, popping sound if you strum it hard). I also have a baritone ukulele made by Lanikai which was ten times the cost, and while it's definitely a little nicer, it's hard to justify the difference in cost. Needless to say, I definitely plan on having some fun with this thing, all for the price of dinner and a movie.

First one I ordered, the tuning pegs would not tighten and therefore would not hold any tension whatsoever. Returned it immediately and got a replacement (MF Customer Service was great, btw). The replacement's bridge broke after only a month of use. Completely separated from the body of the uke. My advice: spend a little extra money and get a better quality instrument. Lesson learned for me.

Comments about Rogue Hawaiian Soprano Ukulele:

This is the second Rogue instrument I had to return due to poor quality control (the first was a resonator). Perhaps my biggest complaint is that the fret board was covered in gouges and holes -- it was if someone picked up a piece of scrap wood off of the floor and didn't even have the courtesy of sanding it. Moreover, even though I unwrapped the instrument directly from the manufacturer's packaging, there were scratches in the finish throughout. The tuners also stink. I realize I wasnt getting the highest quality of instruments for the price I paid, but this was just ridiculous. Fortunately, MF made it right without a single hassle.

I just got this thing and it's great for the money! The e-string comes out of tune and that's annoying but if you just take a philips head screw driver and tighten it up it works fine. Over all I like it.

This has an awesome neck with beautiful fret work. Don't spend hundreds on a uke, 10 years ago that would be unheard of. C'mon folks, it's just a uke, not a stradivarius violin...friction tuners need to have screws tightened to hold it in tune, that's just the nature of the beast, geared tuners are for guitars not ukes.

Let's be real. For a first time owner of a uke (starter), it is a great buy. There were no flaws in the instrument and it played well. You are getting a little better than what you pay for. I'm having fun with it. It is a no brainer, if you want better, spend more. No regrets with this purchase.
Machine tuners would be nice, but the friction tuners work fine when adjusted correctly.
The Uke appeared to be built very well for the price.

I bought this as a gift for my daughter, as a first instrument. I didn't want a toy, but didn't want to spend too much, just in case her desire to play was just a whim. I think this Ukulele is a good value: it has a nice sound and nice natural finish. My only concern at this point is how well it will hold it's tune. I have tuned it a few times already and it tends to slip. Sometimes the initial stretching of the strings subsides and may hold better after several attempts.
