Ok so before i got this little beauty I also was slightly frighten by some of the reviews about it. I got this starter banjo took it right out of the box and all I had to do was put the bridge on. This is not a difficult task if you have any experience putting a bridge on other instruments and know how to position it properly. I will say that the bridge could have been slightly better because I did have some string buzz but that was not a hard fix. For being a beginner banjo player this works great, it sounds great, and it really looks great. With a new bridge head and strings it will sound even better. The gig bag is great that comes with it, it's a little big, but works good and the dvd and book are good to get you learning some great tunes. I definitely recommend this for beginners who also might not have a big dollar amount to spend.

be wary and ready for major dissapoinment should you take the risk.it's not too bad on the wallet for all you get with the package, but it has completely fallen apart before i could even spend any real time on it.
the extras the banjo comes with are great to help get started.
the quality has been just a trainwreck and a nightmare. after just a few short playing sessions i came back to find the 5th string tuning peg came out. after several attempts at getting it glued and rooted back in place and the string NOT staying in tune at all, i find that also the tailpiece is bent out of shape and needs replaced. extremely frustrating!
while the price is well under all other options (though still quite an investment for a poor musician in bad economic times) if i want to even begin really learning i'll have to pay to have the parts replaced and properly set up, not to mention the time, effort, and money i've put into getting the tunung peg back into place.

Great Buy for Beginners!!!

Comments about Rogue Learn the Banjo Starter Pack:

I'm a "beginning banjo picker"... I was somewhat skeptical after reading some of these reviews, but my banjo arrived yesterday, which was very quick! I had it out of the box, fully assembled, and tuned up w/in about 20 minutes. I don't know what some of these bad reviews are about, but I highly recommend this banjo to someone just starting out. What you get is a very good banjo to learn on for your money!!!

Starter Pack

Comments about Rogue Learn the Banjo Starter Pack:

Overall, the banjo is much higher quality than what I was expecting for the price. Generally speaking, you get what you pay for with instruments, so I figured a banjo at this price was priced this way for a reason. However, I was very impressed when I opened the box. It was much more of an instrument and much less of a toy than I imagined. Seems to be constructed solidly and is very nice looking. I figured out (youtube) how to set the bridge, and tune it up, neither was very difficult. However, I am slightly dissappointed at the "pack" that came with this banjo. Yes, there is a chord book, DVD, and case (that smells terrible. Weird, i know) but I would have liked (and paid extra for) things like a strap, some finger picks, and maybe a nicer set of strings/bridge, and a tuner or pitch pipe. An armrest would be nice too. Listen, you can't beat the price of this banjo, and it does include everything mentioned in the description. But for the absolute beginner this package does leave some things to be desired. That being said, I will probably be buying another one of these pack in the future for my mother who also wants to learn banjo.
Pack is lacking some basic things required to play.
Seems to be a very nice piece of equipment for a VERY affordable price.

never played a banjo, never touched one, got this thing set up to the best of my knowledge, tuned it up, and got out the chord chart. within an hour I had some awesome tunes coming from this reasonably priced banjo. give it a shot, worth every bit of what MF charges.

Comments about Rogue Learn the Banjo Starter Pack:

I'm highly doubtful about all the negative reviews of this. People either don't know what they're doing or they're lying about the banjo. This banjo is excellent. Gig bag was WAY higher quality than I was expecting. Banjo is great. Stays in tune for days at a time. Very good quality Remo Fiberskyn head. Sounds like a banjo. Neck needed no adjustment. Unreal buy for the price. Great!

You Get What You Pay For

Comments about Rogue Learn the Banjo Starter Pack:

A nice little lady brought this banjo into my shop to change strings for her. I noticed 2 were broken. She hadn't played it yet. Before changing strings, I had to tighten the neck, dress frets 5 thru 14, and had to do major work to the tail piece. The string holes in the tail pc. had to be enlarged as it was too much of a bend and caused undo stress on the strings causing breakage. The tail piece could be changed. Bottom line is: If you buy a cheaper instrument, take it in to have it properly set up and adjusted, you'll be glad you did. The lady now has a decent playing banjo that is not hard to play. Although it cost her $100 more, it is still good value for an entry level instrument.

Comments about Rogue Learn the Banjo Starter Pack:

I'm very pleased with my purchase of this starter kit. the only thing i had to set up was the bridge, of which how to do there was no instructions, but instructions are all over youtube. it's a sturdy banjo, no bow in the neck sounds like a banjo, plays like a banjo. a friend of mine who's a guitarist mentioned he thought rogue was a subsidiary of gibson and his opinion was that it was a quality instrument. can't beat it for the price.
