Not for Pro Playing

Comments about Suzuki Bluesmaster Harmonica Box Set:

Like most pro players tired of paying through the nose for decent sound harps that don't last long, I thought I'd give these a spin. I had one that was given to me a few years back that I kept in my motorcycle set that worked OK and still works, but these leaked way too much air around the reeds. Took twice the air to play them. Even more than the Lee Oskars. Looks like I'm sticking with Special 20s.

Comments about Suzuki Bluesmaster Harmonica Box Set:

I felt pretty good about Suzuki harmonicas after playing a cheapy I picked up in Matamoros while on vacation.. I knew I would want more than just one so I ordered this set and have since not used any of my Hohners or Lee Oskars except in special tunings or when playing without an amp... These harps are a little low on volume but have a great tone and respond very well when bending notes and on blowover notes after a little tweaking of the reeds.. What is most impressive to me is how air tight they are when cupping a bullet type microphone or playing into a mic on a stand just cupping the harp and using my hands to get acoustic type wha wha effect .. I find it necessary to press the holes of the higher notes against my cheek to prevent the reeds from sounding off when blowing or drawing on the low side.. Another nice thing about these harps is that I never get my mustache or beard hairs p ulled out like I do with other harps that don't have as tight fit between the comb and covers... I'm almost afraid to try any of the higher priced Suzuki harps because they might be even easier to play and sound better than the Bluesmaster. Maybe not so much for playing into Green Bullet through a tube amp though.. That is where these little jewels really shine. The only improvement I would enjoy seeing would be some type of teflon coating on the covers like Hohner has used for over 35 years on the ProHarp. Until that happens I'll keep using chap stick.

      High Quality Harmonica Set

      By Richard Hazen

      from Mississippi

Comments about Suzuki Bluesmaster Harmonica Box Set:

There is nothing I dislike about these harps. All of the suzukis I've owned (except the cheap folkmaster) had reliable quality control, were airtight, in tune, and great to play. The Suzuki Bluesmaster and the Hohner Meisterklasse are my main gigging harps. I think I like the Bluesmasters a bit better, as they are lighter weight, and the aluminum comb of the Meisterklasse takes a while to warm up.
The phosphor bronze reeds are fairly long lasting, though I do have a problem with the lower harps (especially the A) going flat on me. I breathe too hard and fatigue the reeds. I don't have that problem with the higher harps. And I'm working on my breath control and technique... using octaves to play loud rather than blowing a single reed harder. I really like the covers with the recessed reed plates. These might be might be my favorite harps to play... and I have lots of hohners, plus a seydel, a bushman... they're all good in their own way, and the suzuki bluesmaster is, too.
The quality on these is top notch. Out of the suzuki line I've played Bluesmaster (great), Harpmaster (good), and Folkmaster (worthless). Bluesmasters are tuned right, and very airtight.
I'd say these are better than average on value. Really good for the price. I've got Hohner Meisterklasses, too, and these are just as good. They're easy to customize for overblows, too. Just a little arcing and gapping and you're there. If I recall, these are tuned equal temperament rather than just intonation, and I think I prefer the equal temperament. I know most overblowers do.

      I got burned

      By The Heater

      from Pawleys Island SC

Comments about Suzuki Bluesmaster Harmonica Box Set:

The harps are not very good considering the high price tag. They are not very loud and squeak when played. The Hofners are still the best bang for the buck. You will be majorly disappointed if you shell out that kind of coin for such a poor quality product.
