Comments about Suzuki Firebreath Harmonica:
Great harp, small and comfortable, sealed wood comb that is very good on the lips, great tone, nice bendy reeds and easy overblows.
Alternatives include the Marine Band Deluxe, Hohner Crossover, Suzuki Manji, and Seydel.
The Firebreath is a great sounding and playing harp. It overblows out of the box. Great bends. It is a little smaller than other harps, so it fits well in cupped hands. I give it a nine out of ten. It is a little pricey. I do like some of the other Suzuki's such as promasters which can cost a little less. I believe this is a notch better. I don't give it a ten out of ten because I don't think it is twice as good as a Hohner Special 20 or Golden Melody, or Busman Delta Frost, but it costs twice as much. Also, it is pretty much a great diatonic with the usual features. It is not valved or anything fancy, so let's call it a nine.
This harp was perfect out of the box. I usually have to spend time setting up my harps. Not this one. It is what anyone would want in a harp. (It should be for the price.)
Like I said, it is a good value, but there are many gigable harps that cost ten to twenty dollors less. If you don't mind gapping your harps for overblows, you may do just as well with a cheaper harp. Promasters are also a great idea. However, if you just want to buy and blow at a gig out of the box, I think this would be a great harp to go with.
Comments about Suzuki Firebreath Harmonica:
I cherish mine and I would love to receive a 12 key set from my birthday.
Although mostly a guitarist, I have doubled on harp for over ten years. I own something like 40 or 50 diatonics from most major brands. I set up my own harps for overblows if they can't do it out of the box.
I believe the Firebreath tho be on of the best out of the box harps I've ever had. Excellent draw bends, blow bends, and overblows right out of the box. I believe they are great harps, and I think that they are worth the money. I do enjoy other Suzukis like the Pure Harp and Promasters, and have found promasters to be a good choice if you cand spend the extra forty for the Fire Breath. If you are serious about overblows, and you don't have the know how or confidence (or insanity) to set up your own harps, fire breaths are a great way to go.
A little pricey, but they are still a good value considering the quality and materials.
Comments about Suzuki Firebreath Harmonica:
I had read and heard a lot of good things about this harmonica. I have to admit I am a bit suprised at the lack of quality. For this price I expected a tight playing harp. I bought two, one in the key of "A" another in the key of "G". 10 hole bends are easy on both but the 1 and 2 holes have excessive blow by. My suzuki promasters with the metal combs do everything these harmonicas do and better. I had a set of promasters stolen and decided to move up a step and buy the fire breaths based on things I heard on youtube.A couple really good players claimed that the "Firebreath" was the best out of the box harp I'm sorry I bit on that notion. The 5 harp promaster set is a better deal and they play better, louder and bend as easily both draw and blow bends. Don't get me wrong the "Firebreath" is a top notch harp, far better than Lee Oskar plastic combs, or Hohner wood combed harps I own. I just don't think they are as good as the Suzuki metal comb harps.
