The Loar's new hand carved A model mandolin was developed using classic tried-and-true design techniques. With hand-shaped X-bracing and stripped down appointments, the LM-220 gives players the sound they've come to expect from The Loar at an unprecedented price point.

The Loar LM-220 mandolin is assembled with a solid carved spruce top and solid maple back and sides. The maple neck has a comfortable rounded V-profile to fit in the hand perfectly. For players who prefer a more streamlined look, the LM-220 has a single layer of ivoroid binding. Comments about The Loar LM-220 Hand-Carved A-Model Acoustic Mandolin:

I'be been playing guitar for 40+ years and mandolin for about 5 years. I've had several much more expensive mandolins, like a Weber Yellowstone, Ratliff RA-5, Gibson A9, and I'd put this mando up there with any of them. I could not believe the tone and playability of this instrument- at this price point it's just unreal. The only mandolin I've had that sounded better was the '93 Flatiron A5 Artist I've been kicking myself for selling a couple of years ago. I hate to say it, but the time has passed when you had to pay thousands for a quality American-made instrument to get excellent quality.

Comments about The Loar LM-220 Hand-Carved A-Model Acoustic Mandolin:

I am quite impressed with this. It's very loud for an A model. VERY easy player. I haven't had it long enough for the tone to change due to being played and the wood working BUT the way I've been going after it that will happen pretty quick!! I bought his (new but a a discount) intending to use it as a knock around instrument. Not gonna happen, I'm havin' way too much fun with it.

Comments about The Loar LM-220 Hand-Carved A-Model Acoustic Mandolin:

I just received my The Loar LM220, a condition 4 instrument. Very cold here so had to wait to open the box to let it get up to room temperature, salivating like one of Pavlovs' canines hearing a bell the whole time. I had glue, clamps, etc. at the ready to apply my repair. Upon opening, I found a gorgeous instrument with a very minor crack at the nut extending maybe two inches toward the body. I decided to just tune it up and save the repair for later if the crack gets any worse (I really don't think it will). Tuned it no problem and checked the intonation and frets: good. I am a forty year guitarist who just wants to expand musical horizons. This is my first mandolin but in no time had figured out a passable version of Dueling Banjos. I can feel you cringe, but one has to start somewhere. I love the tone and projection. I was surprised at the very small size of the mandolin: it is tiny, especially as seen on my 250lb. frame (yes, I checked in a mirror) using a leather bootlace as a strap. But this mandolin does pack a tonal wallop. Now just need to find some bluegrass types to jam with. I'm very happy with this purchase.

Comments about The Loar LM-220 Hand-Carved A-Model Acoustic Mandolin:

I am so excited about this mandolin. I am an experienced guitar and upright bass player and want to add mandolin to that list. I could not have chosen a better starter than this Loar and, probably will carry me through the rest of my life. I was a little concerned that it was listed as "used" but, it arrived in excellent condition!
