I love my guitarlele.
Like all Yamaha products, the guitarlele is well constructed.
There were minor imperfections in the wood materials used on my guitarlele, but there were no construction flaws. Many have commented on the strings. Mine arrived with good quality, normal tension classical guitar strings, and they are coated. After many months of playing, the wound strings have the usual fret wear, but have not shown any discoloration at all, and they still sound true.
I don't know of any price-point competitive product.

Based on the reviews I read, Im really shocked at the poor quality and sound. They must be making these guitarleles cheaper now then back when those favorable reviews were written.
The sound is dull and does not sound like a ukulele in spite of the body being the size of a tenor uke. It does not project at all and sounds like a kids toy guitar tuned up to A.
The overall fit and finish is terrible. The cutouts in the headstock are rough with sawdust visible under the satin finish. The finish over the entire neck and body is also rough because of particles of dust throughout the finish. These are not sprayed in a dust-free clean room.
The edge of the fretboard is gouged like it went through a planer against the grain. The fretwork is marginal. The tuning pegs are junk. The faux binding is pitted.
The manufacturer slopped glue on the top when the bridge was set. They tried to scrap is off and then sand it with either a fine grit sandpaper or steel wool. There were five spots around the bridge, each about the size of a quarter, and each very visible. The scraping/sanding was not in the direction of the grain either. Each spot is a different direction. At best, the instrument I received would be considered B-stock with significant cosmetic flaws.
This instrument truly is on par with a toy guitar and should be selling for $30 at Toys R Us. Im sad to see Yamaha puts its name on the headstock.

When I bought this a year ago I had a very negative review of this. I HATED IT!. OK things are different. I am self taught 3 years. When I bought this I wanted a guitar smaller than my 3/4 size. I wanted to use this for practice anywhere. Fact is the thing is small. If you have tiny fingers this would be perfect. I have small fingers but not thin fingers so this instrument will let you do barre chords in the first few frets. It is too small to do good barres but it is kinda fun to play
NOW that I am trying to learn the notes on the fretboard and to play individual notes, I love this. It is really made for people who can do lead or classical and know individual notes. Strunning is good but barre chords are a nightmare. simple Em Am C G are good on this. The F barre is hard for me to play,
I am using this when I sit on the sofa. I can practice my scales and have no problem playing it. IT is a good learning tool. It is also fun and so cute how it looks. I gave this to a guy who plays lead in a band. his fingers and hands are huge YET he was able to go all over the fretboard and play really well. HE loved it. So for the price This is something to own in your collection. All my other guitars are steel string #11 and #12 bronze. This guit has nylon strings and is fun. YES BUY IT

id have to say this is A COOL instrument..and i know it just came out last year i belive..i like to get one for practice and the face the fretboard is wide which is what i like alot in a guitar...hopefully they make more colors like black n etc..all in all its an ok instrument :)

The tone was mediocre. I replaced the strings with Martin classical guitar strings (very affordable), before I ever tried to play it. I replaced the saddle with bone, but the tone was not great. I just replaced the saddle with Tusq ("Martin style 3/32"), and the tone seems much better. This thing now sounds like what I would expect with a solid top instrument! Order the Tusq saddle and Martin strings when you order the guitelele, and you should be happy!. (Hint: use the old saddle as a guide as to length and height of the new one.)

This is a good instrument for someone who wants to play a ukulele sized guitar but does not want to change their normal style. it is also good for ukulele players who want to add more bass tones or latin to their sound
I bought it to play for my infant son as it is quiet and has a really expressive tone, and because the chord shapes are the same as ukulele shapes so my kids sheet music transfers easily. the case is nice, and build quality is good.

This is my first Guitar Ukulele. It has a great sound and feel. It stays in tune very well. Overall, I love it, but the only thing I can say that I don't like about it is that it has a cheap look on the front. Especially around the sound hole. A rosette would have been a nice touch. Also, the body almost looks like they didn't dust or clean the wood before they stained it. It has a very, very small gritty feel on various parts.
Pretty nice for the price ! Great starter Guitar Ukulele.

I got my first guitarlele a year ago. I was surprised by the great tone (kind of like a small classical guitar). I just bought a second one so I could keep my first one in the car all the time, and the second one in my music room back home.
One note to make: I tried putting regular size classical guitar strings on it when restringing, and I got the feeling like maybe the tension was too low for it. I was afraid that the strain might be too much, so I replaced the strings again with light weight classical guitar strings. They feel more appropriate and I'm more confident that the tension is right now.

- note that this is a Baritone-length Uke
- as for "no truss rod"... i don't think any Uke's have them
- the wood is a wood finish (a print?) atop cheaper wood that likely wouldn't stain well. Mine's

- not much choice in Uke 6-strings... you either spend 5x what I spent and get a really nice one, or you get this one!

- sound isn't as enchanting, full, and exotic sounding as the nice (5x the cost) 4-string Baritone Uke's out there, but i mainly use it for relaxation at work, and I'm fine with that

if you don't want to learn uke chordings, it is an easy switch for a guitar player to add uke songs to a repertoire. small and tight fretboard would make it difficult to use for someone to use with big fingers. but that is what it is. I like it for an easy switch to uke songs when playing out or in the studio

FOR THE MONEY This is the most fun I've had in a long time. I've got pocket change invested in this thing and it came with a better than I expected gig bag. It's a low priced instrument that sounds better than it should, stays in tune pretty well and it sounds better than I hoped for. I don't think this is a serious instrument (at this price level) but it's a lot of fun and useful for some songs. Next jam session it goes with me!
